NASHVILLE, Tenn. UPDATE 7/14/2021 - The Shelby County Health Department said it will continue to aim COVID-19 vaccination information to all residents, including teens.
This comes after reports that the state Department of Health told county-level employees to stop vaccination events and outreach aimed at teens.
In a statement, Dr. La Sonya Hall, the interim Shelby County Health Director, said: "Public health and safety is the Shelby County Health Departments number one priority. Our mission is to promote, protect and improve the health of ALL in Shelby County. In keeping with our mission, we will continue to provide a comprehensive vaccination program for Shelby County residents of all ages."

That's great, but if you parse the statement carefully, Dr. Hall is not explicitly defying

(Professor/Chair, Dept Preventive Med at Vanderbilt). He and his colleagues will not be cowed and will rip the legislature a new one, I'd predict.

the State Dept. of Health.
It's more like clarifying that the vaccinations will continue to be available.
Just saying.

(57,073 posts)8. Perhaps not, but TN just fired top vax dr.
Dr. Hall is asserting the county health department's position, which is contrary to that of the state's.

(33,643 posts)9. The State said 'Stop your OUTREACH about vaccine to teens'
The county said 'just so you know, we're still offering vaccinations to everyone'
It's not contrary.
