47% of West Coast Dems, 66% of Southern Republicans Want to Secede From U.S.

Two-thirds of Southern Republicans say they support breaking away from the U.S. and forming their own country with nearby states, while nearly half of Democrats on the West Coast would do the same. A 66 percent majority of Republicans in 13 Southern states including Texas and Florida are in favor of seceding from the union, according to a poll released Wednesday by Bright Line Watch. Half of all independents in the South agreed, while only 20 percent of Southern Democrats were on board.

Support for forming a breakaway country reached 47 percent among Democrats in California, Oregon, Washington, Alaska and Hawaii. One-third of West Coast independents, or 33 percent, were in favor of succession, along with 27 percent of West Coast Republicans.

A smaller share of respondents from other regions agreed. In 13 Midwest states, support was highest among independents, 43 percent of whom wanted to secede. In Northeastern states, 39 percent of Democrats were in favor of leaving the U.S. and forming their own country, while 43 percent of Republicans in states near the Rocky Mountains said the same.

Data analyst Christopher Ingraham described the poll results as the "most disturbing datapoint" he had recently seen on Twitter. In a post on his Substack online newsletter, Ingraham noted that many of those who expressed support for secession may be expressing support to indicate partisan loyalties rather than support for a potential new Civil War.

...and I'd wager that the sane in any 21st century seceding state, say California, would NOT accept language like the 2nd amendment in their new Constitution.

who use public schools to supplement their education like sports, libraries, social events, etc. Those southern states would be asking for foreign aid from the rest of the US.

… they’d see the new flag as a “socialist flag.” I like the idea of that.

fascists take over the House and Senate in 2023 because of Manchin and Sinema refusing to end the filibuster. The fascists will then use extreme voter suppression tactics to ensure a fascist is installed as POTUS in 2025.

We'd move back to Washington in a heartbeat if the west coast successfully seceded under those circumstances. We already have a "safe house" little bungalow in Mexico that we have been leasing for $50 a month for the past 20 years.

Fuck all if we're going to live in QOP nazi Gilead for even one second of our lives.

Not.

Rioting white students at University of Mississippi hoist a Confederate battle flag in a backlash against James Meredith’s attendance as the first Black student in 1962.

20. Baron de Montesquieu lays it down

"Virtue in a republic is a most simple thing: it is a love of the republic; it is a sensation, and not a consequence of acquired knowledge: a sensation that may be felt by the meanest as well as by the highest person in the state.

When the common people adopt good maxims, they adhere to them more steadily than those whom we call gentlemen. It is very rarely that corruption commences with the former: nay, they frequently derive from their imperfect light a stronger attachment to the established laws and customs.

The love of our country is conducive to a purity of morals, and the latter is again conducive to the former. The less we are able to satisfy our private passions, the more we abandon ourselves to those of a general nature."

?=====

IOW, too much capitalism too much materialism is going to undermine a love of country. We quit caring about each other, especially people who live far away. This is why Montesquieu said republics can't be bigger than a city. He felt like a continent-wide country would have to be a despotism, a form of government that leans on fear rather than virtue as the consolidating social factor. And that is why we keep electing presidents who play on our fears.

It's not surprising that, as government becomes dysfunctional, dominant parties in different regions of the country want to break off and go their separate ways. America is just too damn big to be sustained as a republic once we let capitalism drive us to love ourselves more than our Union.
