(16,844 posts)It's petty and fundamentally ignorant of how the 2019 coronavirus works. One reason why the Biden approach to fighting covid is superior to the Trump approach to fighting covid is that the Democratic policy is based in science.
The OP in this thread is about as scientifically literate as Donald Trump. Covid19 doesn't just "kill off" the people who get it. It fucks up they're smelling and taste senses for several months and leaves scarring in the lungs that can last for years or for life (we don't know which yet). But with a few exceptions, it mostly kills people with existing complicating factors.
It's a painful disease and I wouldn't wish it on anyone, not even the people too stupidstubborn to to take reasonable precautions against spreading it. If you wish for unvaccinated people to get sick and die from Covid19, you're also wishing for innocent people like the elderly and the immunocompromised to get sick and die too.

(23,307 posts)medical treatment. THIS is the reason a national vaccine database would be so helpful there would be a record of who is vaccinated and who opted out. The opt outs do not get their Covid treatment paid for and dont get to have nice things. 😡

(53,998 posts)It is fundamentally indecent to wish for a disease to strike down people, even those who are being irresponsible about taking precautions from it.
When an apartment building is on fire, firefighters don't bust in and try to figure out who deserves to be rescued. The policy is and should be save everyone you can
You're mimicking of the Social Darwinis-just desserts policy is an insult to the humanistic traditions of the Democratic Party. Saying "Serves 'en right" is petty and small. It's the same kind of thinking that hand waved away the collateral damage deaths of Iraqis in 2003.

(638 posts)Vaccination in Los Angeles County is underperforming among the poorer communities and among the Latino and African-American demographics. Infections and deaths have also disproportionately hit these communities.
I for one have sympathy for these folks but some days I feel like Im in the minority here.

(18,402 posts)wishing death on people ... any person, even ones who are stupid or selfish, or heaven forbid, conservative ... is symptomatic of the social and moral breakdown Im seeing everywhere in society lately. And such hateful talk has no place on this board.
Its days like today that I wish we were back in the midst of pandemic lockdown. At least it was peaceful.
If youre vaccinated, like me, just go about your business and continue to socially distance and mask when in public spaces. Wash your hands and know you are safe. And remember, some of those hospitalized unvaccinated people might be individuals who for medical reasons were unable to get the shot.

(9,067 posts)work multiples jobs and haven't found the time yet or those that can't get the vaccine because of their medications or conditions. Then there are the children that can't get them yet. There are people who are taking care of others that haven't had the time, the list goes on.

(4,516 posts)And the number of people with TRUE medical exceptions in OK is a tiny fraction of those who refuse to vaccinate. The same people, I might add, who wanted to KILL LGBTQ medical workers or anyone willing to take care of HIV patients 40 years ago.

From the article....
"To date, we have not had a patient admitted to a DHS hospital who has been fully vaccinated with either the J&J, Pfizer or Moderna vaccine," said Dr. Christina Ghaly, director of the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services, said Tuesday. "Every single patient that we've admitted for COVID has been not yet fully vaccinated."

(3,283 posts)Therefore, I don't care about their outcome. The science is out there for all to see if you choose to see it. If you choose not to heed it and you get sick or die because of it, I have no empathy for you or your survivors if they joined you in your decision. Too many people are not willing to go beyond their own self interest for the betterment of society as a whole. Too harsh? Perhaps, but in the end, it's just my opinion.
