The children selling explicit videos on OnlyFans

I know of at least one girl in my daughter's 'network' of friends that was using Only Fans.

She is underage.

anyway, here from the BBC article

Under-18s have used fake identification to set up accounts, and police say a 14-year-old used a grandmother's passport.

The UK's most senior police officer for child protection also says children are being "exploited" on the platform.
OnlyFans says its age verification systems go over and above regulatory requirements.
The platform has more than a million "creators" who share video clips, photos and messages directly with subscribers for a monthly fee.
In return for hosting the material, OnlyFans takes a 20% share of all payments.

People are paid for a range of behaviors that can include sex.

Luckily they are catching some. Kids are so much better at this internet thing then adults. The only thing that might stop the cheating is when they are caught charge with child pornography. After all that’s exactly what these kids are doing.

and their ceo. If we do - you'll see the next porn site with much better controls.

The only thing we can't do (imo) is give up. These are kids. I've 'just' raised my daughter (newly 18). I know how bad it is out there. Look at the garbage on reddit.

In my daughter's school, more than one child walked the hallways - identified as a furry. In school. I mean.....IN SCHOOL.

I could go on and on......We have to do a better job safeguarding kids. There was literally an article in the WaPo saying that it was good for kids to see kink at pride (kink might belong at pride.....not here to opine on that. But I sure wouldn't let a very young child see it. )

I just feel that we can't give up because it's hard (and sure, the internet makes it very hard to do a good job safeguarding).

The courts have long since determined just how valid that the go-to excuse of 'but she said she was 18!' is.

Should be quite simple too, since Onlyfans apparently was able to return the money that these 'fans' paid out.

Dozens of billions on computing in the compuserv age. Too many false tech paths. Equipment replaced every 4 years for upgrades. But that is how building the next and next and next generation of tech was paid for.

Regulation could have done it on far far less, but lots of people would have been late to the game.

No one seems to have realized the social and chaotic costs of instant, universally available information.

It's taken all this to graduate from videotape to dvd to streaming. All the toxic computer waste.

And it exacerbated economic inequality.

Would like to see a scientist, many of them, list the good, the bad, the ugly, the costs, the social costs, the degradation costs.

I'd bet it's little better than a zero sum game we've (been) played.
