Something just occurred to me re: the "binders" comment

Amidst all the hilarity, I was left seriously scratching my head as to why he would reference something so outdated in the modern, digitized world of 2012 where just about everything is stored and accessed in digital format? Even the few forms that are still filled out on paper are scanned into databases in modern office work environments.

Then it hit me. He has no clue about any of that. For all his yapping about "running businesses" , I doubt he has a clue of how modern offices and business networks function. This powdered and pampered popinjay has "people" that do, well.... everything for him. I get the impression he has done very little other than point and bark orders for a long, long time. Work is a foreign concept to him and has been for decades, hence the outdated reference.

At the point he made that mistake, he had been in the WH security bubble for close to 12 years. When he entered that bubble they did not exist, and a VEEP, even less a POTUS, does not do their own shopping. The SS will frown on that, it is a security issue.

So that one, ok... textbook example of what that security bubble looks like.

So, if there was a dramatic change in checkout systems (like there was when scanners became widespread), I'm sure she would mention it to Obama, if only as light dinner conversation with a "Guess what I saw today..." Barb didn't shop anywhere that had checkouts, I'm sure, so she wasn't about to pass on any info. like that to Senior.

We used them in the '70s and '80s, and my daughter is still using a 3 ring binder for school papers, but for personnel files in an office? Not for quite a long time now.

it's a classic design that works very well to hold paper which is still used very prevalently in many offices; especially those that are required by law to keep records that can't just explain lack of records by a hard-drive failure.

With a big ass stapler with a compound lever type handlle. And our public file is of course on paper organized in big manila folders. But we've done away with a shitload of the paper we used to use including the copy book, we no longer even print and sign traffic instructions at the station level anymore, they're acknowledged by email reply. and we damn sure don't keep a bunch of paper on people that we don't need to.

By getting rid of all that paper we are saving a lot of money and helping the environment

The notebooks work much better. and of course all of the stuff that isn't required to be printed is done through email. my only point was that binders are a thing and are useful. if you really want to argue that point... please continue.

1) to bind mother's breasts to stop producing milk if she doesn't want to nurse,
2) to bind a baby's waist so they didn't get a hernia at the umbilical cord site/belly button; probably used for adults in danger of developing a hernia

The Blackberry came in in 99 if I can recall.

IIRC by 2003 they were THE status symbol hand held device.

I've never worked in a corporate office though. Anyone with experience in when the digital age really hit with a vengeance? I do believe it was by 2003....
