Cuba is unfortunately a failed state and repressing their citizens. There are a number of things that we would consider doing to help the people of Cuba, but it would require a different circumstance or a guarantee that they would not be taken advantage of by the government,” Mr Biden said.

“For example, the ability to send remittances back to Cuba. We would not do that now because the fact is it’s highly likely the regime would confiscate those remittances or big chunks of it,” he added.



However, Mr Díaz-Canel also recognised the shortcomings of his own government. “We also have to make a critical analysis of our own problems so we can act, so we can overcome, and prevent them from repeating themselves, so we can transform situations,” he said during a speech on Wednesday.

Asked about his views on communism during the Thursday press conference, Mr Biden condemned it as a “universally failed system”, adding that he doesn’t see “socialism as a very useful substitute”.

3. This matter needs to be lain at the feet of the Cuban Govt.

Biden is a generous man, but draws the line against a kniving oppressive gov't who scoops up that generosity for itself while denying its own people. Those whom the generosity was intended for.

Time for Cuba to lay to rest their old regime & belong to the future of a functioning Democracy in support of its own citizens.

Lifting the blockade would be the right & generous thing to do, but not if the Cuban govt confiscates it to make deals & sells to other regimes, while starving their own people.

The Protests should direct their rage at the real problem. It's not President Biden.
It is the structure of the Cuban Govt itself.

When foreign goods are given to the Cuban govt for their people & 3/4 is confiscated for itself, while only 1/4 is distributed back to its citizens, then the problem isn't in those who give,.it is within the corrupt govt structure

We are not not blockading cuba. Cuba can trade with other countries and does. Even the US is one of Cuba's largest trade partners, so it's not even a full embargo.

Furthermore your comment or race is confusing, at best. Not only do black caribbeans immigrate to the US all the time, but we don't have a restrictive immigration policy with cuba. Any cuban that makes it to the US can stay. On top of that, the castros and Miguel Díaz-Canel are white, and dictators. Why even bring race up?

If we didn't have a large, politically influential group of ex Cubans living in this country, we would have practically forgotten that they existed.

I'm much more worried about my own country becoming a failed state.

I think its mostly RW'rs who are pushing this crap. There are failed governments in Honduras, Guatemala, and Haiti, and the only thing the right wants to talk about is how to prevent all the people fleeing those failed countries from entering the U.S.
