The Open 2021: Donald Trump makes his latest case for an Open return to TurnberryBy Stephen Hennessey

The Open has not returned to Turnberry since Stewart Cink beat Tom Watson in a playoff there in 2009. A return isn't expected anytime soon, either. The R&A has named Open venues through 2024, and Turnberrypurchased by Donald Trump in 2014is not on that list.
The R&A has reiterated its plans not to return to Turnberrysaying in a statement six days after the U.S. Capitol was stormed that it wouldnt return for the foreseeable future until the ruling body is convinced that the focus will be on the championship, the players and the course itself and we do not believe that is achievable in the current circumstances.
Trump doubled down on his stance that Turnberryranked 11th on Golf Digests most recent world rankingsshould be awarded another Open Championship, releasing a statement on Saturday during the third round at Royal St. Georges.

(63,221 posts)And stop using that fucking stationery! You aren't the president anymore! You never really were.
Totally Tunsie
(10,885 posts)This is the stationery that dumbfuck had made up AFTER he left the presidency.
You'll note there is nothing on there that can be legally challenged. Like t***p standing in front of the white columns at Bedminster, so is this stationery designed to be invocative of actual presidential material. As always with t***p, it's all about the image...no substance.

(63,221 posts)I know that it's total BS stationery, but it just bothers me to no end that he is still trying to give off the impression that he is still the president, or that he is even relevant at all.
He is still using the title to grift and gain favors and it should be illegal. He is such a sick, disgusting person! I just hate him with the fire of a thousand suns. I can't wait until he is gone forever.
Other than that, hope your summer is going well!

"Someday the Open will be back at Turnberry".
Yeah, after your idiotic, evil, worthless ass is dead and gone. Hopefully, we will not have a long wait for that.

I once had a boss who didn't understand that when she'd written "dose" instead of "does," the spell checker wouldn't flag it.

(101,312 posts)Everyone knows the only things he 'won' were awarded to him by flunkies because he owned the course. That's just the kind of disrespect for a sport that no governing body would want to be seen to condone.
The ownership of other courses just doesn't come up, because no one else is such an ego-driven monster that a course becomes all about them. There's no way TFG can reform himself enough for the R&A to consider holding The Open at one of his courses. If he snuffs it and the kids manage to salvage Turnberry from the crater of the indicted Organization, then they could try to behave like a normal business for a few years, and then maybe it could make back onto the list.

(135,831 posts)The sooner you sell it, the sooner it will return.
p.s. the people of Scotland fucking hate you.
The last time it was there it was before he owned it.

Controversial remarks made by Mr Trump in his campaign for the Republican nomination about Muslims, Mexicans, Chinese and women, among others have given him a near-pariah status in the global game, raising the risk of a boycott by sponsors and international players.
...
The property tycoon bought the Turnberry resort in April last year from the subsidiary owned by the Dubai investment group chaired by Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum. It was renamed Trump Turnberry and a £200m upgrade was promised.
The purchase appeared to give the billionaire the near-guarantee that when the Open came to his place, he would be centre-stage at the winners presentation party on the 18th green, along with Mr Slumbers and other dignitaries, a ceremony shown to millions around the world.
Although the R&A is stuffed full of establishment figures, Turnberry with Trump is now seen as a risk they will not take. Another insider said: 2020 will not happen here. Turnberry will be back. But perhaps not Trump Turnberry.

Probably Trump just wants to make some noise and stoke his usual sense of grievance. Delusional as he is, surely he can't have imagined that events since 2015 have done anything to rehabilitate his international reputation?
