A Nevada woman broke into a dentists office, stole money and pulled 13 teeth from an unconscious patient on two separate occasions, according to Washoe County police.
Deputies allege that Laurel Eich who is not a dentist broke into a dental office where she claimed she had formerly worked.
Eich allegedly stole $22,861 in cash and checks during the May 3 break-in, the Washoe County Sheriff's Office said in a press release.
Meanwhile, the tooth extraction occurred on a different date than the break-in, Eich told detectives. She also admitted to using anesthetic disposed of by the office, police said.

(2,496 posts)How many people pay cash for dental fees?
Also, pulling teeth takes some effort and time. How did no one see her?
Sounds like something fishy is going on at this office.
(On edit: I guess the 22,000 is mostly checks. But even so, they need to go to the bank more often.)

(5,857 posts)that renders you unconscious (not mouth numbing injections) should ALWAYS be physically monitored. That's malpractice on the dentists part before it even gets to assault.

(31,261 posts)But we did have a guy steal a small alligator and try to throw it on top of a buildings roof. Fortunately the police interrupted him before he killed the little gator.

(23,968 posts)It would be interesting to see the layout/floor plan of the office. Hard to envision an arrangement that would allow sufficient privacy for someone to anaesthetize a patient and pull that many teeth unobserved. And she would have to have worn scrubs.
I hope we get the rest of the story. This to too weird.
Unless theres some damn good explanation, I think Id be looking for a new dental office.

(53,986 posts)But honestly, after the first such incident, you would think they'd put some security precautions in place
dsc
(52,155 posts)she broke in on two separate occasions, one to steal money, the other to remove teeth so only 13 teeth removed.

(63,221 posts)13 teeth from an unconscious patient on TWO SEPARATE occasions just sounds a little strange to me. There is so much wrong here, I don't even know where to start, but there are a lot of details missing from this story.

(16,376 posts)Leaves an unconscious patient alone long enough for a non-employee to pull 13 teeth? The clinic owner should be sued by the victim/patient. This is beyond weird.

(101,295 posts)The police put it as:
"On May 3, 2021 patrol deputies responded to an after-hours alarm call at a dental office on Sun Valley Boulevard. Deputies found a door ajar, and a back window broken. After the business was cleared by K9 deputies, it was discovered that only a cash drawer was disturbed. A total $22,861 was stolen in cash and checks.
During the investigation, detectives identified Eich as a person of interest in the planning and execution of the commercial burglary.
During the investigation, detectives also learned that Eich performed 13 tooth extractions at an earlier date and time on one person. Eich admitted to multiple people, including detectives, that she performed the medical procedure and used anesthetic disposed of by the dental office. "

So this is not her breaking in, finding an unconscious patient, and ripping out their teeth. This is her saying to someone "I can remove your teeth for you" (whether or not they knew how unqualified she was, we don't know, or if they paid her for it). Since the charges are about 2 break-ins, it would seem she used the office to do this, with anesthetic she knew the office had disposed of (if she used to work there, perhaps it had been her job to dispose of it, and she just kept it; that would have given her access to instruments too).

(35,042 posts)It doesn't sound like she was performing experiments or sneaking into the clinic while it was open and extracting the teeth of patients while everyone else was doing TikTok or something, but it sounds to me like she was bringing in people after the place was closed and pulling their teeth, people who REALLY needed teeth pulled and had no 'legitimate' way of remedying the situation.

(35,042 posts)We're talking about here.
It's equally plausible that she did this for people who REALLY needed teeth pulled and had no other way of doing so, because... you know... money determines our value when it comes to receiving medical attention.
