DALTON, Ga. — A Georgia deputy and his wife are mourning the loss of their 5-year-old son to COVID-19.

Wyatt Gary Gibson died Friday after a short battle with the illness, family members said.

We live in a red area of Orange County, CA. Only about 30% of high school age kids (16+) are vaccinated here. The Republican parents won't vaccinate their kids. I dread the Fall.

Here in NYC our kids were in person (albeit masked) this past year, mostly safely. And while my ten year old isn't old enough to be vaccinated, I still feel safe sending her to school and her after school activities. It's better for her mental health.

As of now, the risk of a child having serious long term effects from covid is still less than many other illnesses AND mental health issues. So, it is worth it for many people to send in person WITH precautions.

for Covid really tests one’s empathy. One part of me is begging them to get vaccinated for THEIR OWN sake, but another part of me is screaming that they are knowingly choosing their fate and if that fate is death from COVID19 or a lifetime of Covid induced ailments for them, then so be it. I am getting to the point where I am tuning out what is happening the pandemic striking the unvaccinated, I am fully vaxxed and still wear my mask in cases where I am unsure of the vaccine status of people that will be around me, that increasingly is all that I care about, my family members are vaxxed.

I stop at a Quick Trip on my way to work and I'm usually the only masked person in the store. And I know damned well here in Arizona a lot of these idiots were NEVER vaxed so at this point you don't know who is and who isn't. I have to admit that I was stunned when the CDC said that vaccinated people didn’t have to wear masks except on public transit, and that unvaccinated people should continue to wear masks everywhere. At the point that the CDC did that, anyone over 12 years old could have gotten vaccinated for about 45 days and vaccine was in plentiful supply here in the US, so there was no reason for anyone over 12 years old not to have gotten at least 1 Covid vaccination shot. I don’t know why the CDC assumed that the virulent anti-mask, anti-vaccine people would start wearing a mask - those people have been psychopaths all through the pandemic, why expect them to change?
