An interesting revelation from one of the recent books...

The White House Counsel, Pat Cippolini, thought Trump could very possibly be arrested for inciting the attack upon our Capitol. They thought it might happen immediately.

But days went by and nothing happened. Trump was holed up in the White House and was making no public comments. He was waiting for the storm to blow over. He did not want to bring attention to himself.

After several weeks, he realized that nobody was going to do anything to him about his role in the attack. He came forward to announce that he would continue his rallies. At last, he felt safe from being arrested.

He was not charged and he became more and more brazen as the days passed.

Until we are where we are today.

the reason why he was laying low is important. All lawyers tell their criminal defendents to STFU during the trial.

even when his lawyers advise him to do so. I would assume that this time he was really concerned for a short time. That sums up his whole life, pushing things to the limit, coming so close to being held accountable and then squeaking by against all odds. He must think he is somehow magical and can get away with anything.

When he made that comment about "Shooting someone on Fifth Ave.", he really was surprised that he could do or say anything and not lose any voters. For him, the possibilities must have seemed endless. A tyrant's dream scenario.

First it was his father, then bankruptcy courts, then NBC, then shady bankers, then Putin and now it is the GOP operatives in congress. So while he avoids the consequences and makes enough to leverage his ridiculous image/lifestyle it is the enablers that are the real winners.

that he has done. After I wrote that comment, I read a passage of Michael Wolff's book where people in his campaign began to believe that maybe Trump DID have some unexplained power where he could repeatedly beat the odds. That was when the early returns on election night showed Trump in the lead. Apparently they didn't consider that the mail-in votes would come last in most states.

Most of the country believed at that time that a sitting President could not be arrested or charged with a crime. We believed we had to wait until he was out of office.

I recall that very thing being posted repeatedly here on DU and other boards, Chump couldn't be arrested until after Biden was sworn in. We were thinking he'd leave the country - remember? There was all kinds of speculation over that.

The awesome book "The Premonition" by Michael Lewis, about a group of people who knew what was happening and going to happen with respects to COVID and what should be done

Long story short, this group was having a conference call during the height of the pandemic ( they were getting quite a following due to their prescience ) someone from Trumps inner circle close to Trump ( I cant remember exactly who) chimed in and starting asking questions. The group was surprised because DT had been such a denier, they were happy to know someone in high power was listening to them.

so the House impeached him a second time. He became brazen because his corrupt and rotten to the core party wouldn't convict him.

I think he's likely to be charged again at some point, this time by a criminal and not political court. I also think it's not going to happen in the next 3.5 years. It takes time to topple dictators, even failed ones.

so he's gradually losing support among people who are still on the functional side of the spectrum. He'll always have the crazies in the campers who follow him around like 70s Deadheads, and they are loud and unhinged, but they are few.

It took Chile 30 years to get Pinchet, a decade of sanity chipping away at his remaining support. I don't think it will take than long to get Duymdum, but it won't happen soon.

will this POS and his grifting family be found guilty of anything? I understand the wheels of justice turn oh so very slowly and the investigators and prosecutors are trying to be thorough. Yet why do I have a small, so far, sinking feeling in my gut that this conman and his grifting family will skate? Years and years of theft, cons, grift has not been lost on the POS that was potus. And you better believe he's pulling every trick in his book of being a swindler and business cheat.
