"SNIP.....
Senate Republicans are signaling theyre not going to agree to move forward on a scaled-down bipartisan infrastructure package if Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer (D-NY) goes ahead with his plan to force a vote Wednesday, The Hill reports.
Punchbowl News: Its fair to say that, at this point, the infrastructure talks between the White House and Senate Republicans arent very productive, and there are serious doubts that a deal can come together
theres virtually no chance a deal will be done by Wednesday at this point.

(11,010 posts)Never consider that maybe... just maybe... Democratic leadership knows exactly what they're dealing with and are anticipating this sort of thing?
Or you just want to point at Democratic incompetence?

(26,355 posts)General idea is that Dems will be able to say "We gave the GQP a chance to participate fairly, and they didn't take it, so..."
It's also a good gun to point at the Repubs - "Play along with the bipartisan bill, and you'll get a say in it. Block it, and we'll pass a bill you're really gonna hate..."

(19,060 posts)Now the Dems can go forward with their $3.5 reconciliation package. Manchin will kill a couple things in it, but in the end it will be a fantastic bill.
WHITT
(2,868 posts)It will 3.5T + 1.2T for the hard infrastructure + more, as there wasn't enough in the original proposal for roads & bridges, let alone to replace all the lead pipes in the country.
It's now clear why Sanders came out with only 3.5T, they assumed they would need to move all the hard infrastructure over.
Biden and Schumer will have to make it plain to Manchin that the train is leaving the station, and he can get onboard or be left standing on the platform. Support the bill or WV gets no infrastructure funds.

(15,286 posts)Biden and Schumer aren't going along.
If Manchin wants his bipartisan bill, he better start working 24/7 to pull it out of the fire.
