The menu at Taco Bell may be a bit limited these days, with the quick-service restaurant chain warning customers that it might not be able to fulfill their current appetite hankerings.
"Taco Bell employee told me there was a 'national shortage of everything right now,' and I have decided to get my economic news exclusively from drive-thru employees from now on," tweeted one patron of the Mexican-food themed eatery.
More specifically, a multitude of complaints on social media pointed to a lack of beef, chicken, hot sauce and 10-inch tortillas at the Yum Brands division, which runs nearly 7,500 Taco Bells, most of them in the U.S.
"Taco Bell has a 'district-wide shortage of hot sauce...times are tough," tweeted one patron. "For anyone craving Taco Bell tonight, I'll save you the drive, they don't have chicken or beef, national shortage or something. I just ate black beans in a hard shell," complained another in a separate tweet.

(4,741 posts)I think Dave Thomas actually invented it; I saw my first copy of QSR Monthly in...98 if memory serves. It does encompass more than "fast food" now, the entire "fast casual" concept is absolutely QSR too.

(34,376 posts)while my husband was still alive. He was a vegetarian and he liked their Mexican pizzas without the meat. I think I heard they discontinued them, though. It's the only thing I liked, but the cats did appreciate us getting them a hard shell taco with sour cream minus the lettuce. I'd break it up for them and they ate it all, lol.

In hindsight, it may well affect me in the grocery store, so double wow.

(21,447 posts)of greater shortages and supply chain breakdowns due to delta spread. We get a lot of foods and other items from countries that are hard hit. Not to mention the slaughterhouses and meat processing and packing plants in our own delta riddled red states. And the effects on farming (produce) in red states.

(62,527 posts)fast food resturants corporate HQ's source this stuff months in advance to make sure there is a constant supply of produce and meat.
We we maybe seeing now is the after effects of the weird winter weather in texas or the hot baking heat in the west.
food supply chains were/are seriously effected by both situations.
this is just a small preview of what is yet to come nation wide
south texas and california supply this nation with a gigantic amount of produce.

(15,807 posts)There were some significant shortages of chlorine in some regions recently- for very different reasons. Drinking water and waste water plants were prioritized for any potential shortages.
A local flour company suggested there would be shortages because they couldnt get the chlorine needed for cleaning.
All that being said, Im not sad about Taco Bells current shortages.

(38,311 posts)... I'll pass authentic Mexican restaurants and Taco Trucks, the kind that will sell you a deep fried fish with eyeballs you can eat, or organ meats.
Nevertheless I still have occasional cravings for Taco Bell food.
In the very most wretched days of my youth, living in my car in a church parking lot, or later in the garden shed of a crazy Vietnam War Vet, Taco Bell sustained me.

(2,431 posts)There's the abandoned, mission-style husk of an old Taco Bell a few blocks from my place.
Two top-notch Taquerias within walking distance. One of them makes all their tortillas to order.
A Mexican supermarket and a smaller carniceria, also within walking distance.
But hey... It's not like this is Santa Ana...
A superb family-owned Vietnamese place that's been there for 18 years.
An authentic Italian deli, a classy Italian place (think "Big Night" , and great pizza...
...yeah also within walking distance.
The only Kolache Factory in the state of California (google it). One block away.
A cloth-napkins type of Greek place. Not a gyros place. This one does the flaming cheese bit.
An Indian grocery store. 3 blocks away.
I know I'm forgetting something.
Who the fuck needs Taco Bell?
