Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsJust curious- how many people here are stocking up again?
We are- canned goods, some frozen, dog and cat food, and buying another 100 KN95 masks again.
We are also masking going into stores now, and avoiding restaurants. We live close enough to Myrtle Beach for that to be problematic.
I would like to start a poll, but I am not a star member.
And yes- we are buying a case of TP, and paper towels from Costco. Also getting one of their packs of Clorox wipes.

(182,788 posts)We easily have 6 months of food. Lots of toilet paper too. Fish antibiotics too.

(7,737 posts)I don't think I would do a "bug out" bag- because--- where in NC would one "bug out" to? We don't have the inclination to buy a chunk of land, and sit on the porch with a couple of hounds and a shotgun across our laps.

(50,949 posts)happened to have happened last week, so I am stocked on tp, but that is just coincidence.
I had been going to restaurants for a while, but I think I am going to take a break from that.
I have a trip planned for next week: car with other vaccinated people, then ferry. I think that should be OK, but I'm watching the numbers.

(9,073 posts)We have three cases at the moment. But that may be because my partner and in-laws are Filipino. I'd only had it a handful of times in my life before we started dating.
I'm on keto, so two slices on a piece of keto toast with coffee is a great quick breakfast. Maybe put an egg on it if I'm not being entirely lazy.

(9,073 posts)We didn't hoard on purpose. There was a massive miscommunication with family, and everyone went individually to Costco for their limit one. Whoops. Now there's only two of us in the house instead of six, so I'm sure we're fine.
I never stopped wearing my mask in public indoor spaces, so that's fine.
Went to a play over the weekend. I usually go see something once a month pre-pandemic, so I was pretty happy. Ugh. So few masks. I kept mine on. Partner went to take his off, and I said, "Don't you even dare."
Feel bad for the actors. It was the company's first performance in over a year. They were clearly so excited to be back.
Yeah. That's not gonna last.

I have been playing Skee Ball at the arcade across from the pier in Garden City for 57 years- and love going to Murrell's Inlet to Drunken Jacks to clog up my arteries-- not this year.

Is the Gay Dolphin still in Myrtle? I spent many a summer down there, ah memories.

(7,737 posts)are down there right now, and bring it back. Remember the Lake of the Ozarks? Myrtle is a super spreader, and no- we are not going down.
LOVE the Gay Dolphin! I haven't been in that part of Myrtle for a couple of decades (there's a boring bypass now)- but, I think it's still there. The pancake places and all those gift shops selling sun tan lotion, shell necklaces and boogie boards are all over the place!
When you get to the pier at Garden City, you would swear it was still 1978-
I am 57 years old

(13,580 posts)I slammed all my freezer space and loaded up on other staples at the start, then replaced what I used, so I'm still stocked up. I'm a whole foods home cooking fanatic. My main concern is produce and dairy. I can hold out for six months easy except for that.

(3,467 posts)affecting me, since I am fully vaccinated. I will wear masks indoors as required by current L.A. mandate, but I will still go to the gym (and lower my mask when doing cardio), still go to Pilates classes, still go shopping whenever I want, and still eat out at restaurants (inside seating) at least 5 times a week.
Yes, I understand kids under 12 can't get vaxed yet and there are other adults who can't get vaxed. That's fine, they can mask up to protect themselves and social distance to their hearts content.
As they are saying all over the news, and I really like this new slogan, this is now a pandemic of the unvaccinated!
YMMV.

(2,955 posts)I'm over this, covid is endemic now and never going away. I'm trusting the vaccine and back to living normally. If I get a minor case of Delta variant or whatever I guess I'll just get a better immunity. I have a family member who got a breakthrough case and it mostly effected him like a mild cold for a week.

(2,215 posts)I still mask when Im out. Had a good supply of paper goods and food but daughters fam moved in while waiting for their new house to be built. They have 4 kiddos so my supplies are pretty much gone. Going to drive down to Myrtle Beach next week with daughter and kids -loaded up the masks, Clorox wipes and Lysol spray. Elliott rentals advertised a service that will grocery shop and deliver/shelve your groceries before arrival so you dont have to go to the grocery store. We are going to do that and eat in our condo. Not going out to restaurants. Prob will go to Broadway at the Beach and we found a movie under the stars night where you bring chairs and sit outdoors. We will be at the beach of course but can avoid being too close to people. My only concern is the elevators so Ill have masks handy for everyone to wear. When we get back home theyll be going to their new house and I will start restocking supplies!! Sure cant hurt.

(6,679 posts)I never understood the TP thing. I grew up using a bucket of water to clean and your own cloth to dry. I have TP for guests who never learned.
The hardest thing to stock here in a senior apartment is perishables. I found a canned milk at Costco that is not bad. I can't get used to dehydrated.
I have been spoiled by fresh produce all year but the switch to all frozen or canned was fine over the winter. Like old times.
Wish we would bring back victory gardens.

(31,261 posts)I am not there yet, but my showers get done in a little less than 5 gallons, versus 17+ gallons for the average adult shower. I am figuring out towel lathering tricks that should allow me to trim off another gallon from the amount of water used. And the showers are the best showers that I have ever taken, I feel so clean after, very clean.
When I was a child, we used to bathe in a big round metal tub, my parents heated water, added some cold water and all kids took a turn bathing until all of us had bathed.

(11,949 posts)All my friends and family are vaccinated. We eat out often but even in the summer in Florida like shaded outside dining and did before Covid. Most places have fans.
I will wear my N95 if in a big crowded place but am seldom in them even before Covid.
I wish we had 80% vaccinated. If we did it would be over.
But we dont and the reality is becoming clear. The nutty republicans will keep dying. Along the way some vaccinated people will get it. Most will never even know they had it. A few will get sick. A minuscule percentage will go to the hospital and maybe die. But just not very many percentage wise.
So I figure the odds and dont feel scared. Not at all condemning those that are more cautious. Thats cool. But if you are vacced you are safe.
I think we are now seeing real anger building at the unvaccinated. By vacced republicans as well as democrats. That is why you are seeing more republicans suddenly supporting the vaccine.
Americans are blaming them for the resurgence. And the blame is not misplaced.
Republicans are actually killing their supporters. They now realize that is a bad look.

(11,949 posts)We can still get it and die. But the odds of dying in a car crash are worse.
Everyone has to decide for themselves. Im not as cautious as many on DU but dont have any criticism for those that choose to be more careful than me.
