Not a Nation: A Patchwork of State Laws Make COVID Permanent?
Stopping or controlling the epidemic would be daunting anyway, but the Republicans have erected legal barriers in many states that take away power that states or corporations previously possessed to shape the future.
While nonspecific philosophical stories about whether or not the federal government would require vaccine passports (and the President saying he’d leave that to the private sector), the GOP has been busy ensuring that the epidemic will be permanent.
In Arkansas, a new law forbids vaccine mandates by state entities - including public hospitals - until TWO YEARS after the vaccine has granted full approval by the FDA. In the gray area of Emergency Use Authorizations, the GOP has found another way to block progress on vaccinations amd effectively ensures that numerous states will continue to be fertile breeders of the epidemic. Since interstate traffic can’t be blocked, the country will be doomed by the least common denominator.
On this and so many other issues, Democrats focus on “national dialog” that is a beautiful theory ruined by the ugly facts of well-funded state GOP legislative machines, producing Xerox copies of whatever legal loopholes can be dreamt up behind closed doors of Heritage or ALEC or CNP.
