Pelosi's move to reject GOP picks for the 1/6 panel is going to be a gift to Kevin McCarthy in the long run.

He wanted this panel to look partisan and political. Now it's definitely going to look partisan and political.

McCarthy says it’s all or nothing with his Jan. 6 committee picks

This could be good for him / Republicans long term — he initially said he opposed the commission because it would be too partisan

Kevin McCarthy
@GOPLeader
Unless Speaker Pelosi reverses course and seats all five Republican nominees, Republicans will not be party to their sham process and will instead pursue our own investigation of the facts.

investigation. He's hell bent on having traitor circus performances either way, with or without Pelosi.

It is intended to not only be a counter message about Jan 6, but also a distraction from the real investigation. He will appoint committee members and choose witnesses for their maximum drama and ratings ability. They will present a counter picture of Jan 6 and probably call on TFG to speak. They will use their committee to attack and counter everything that the real committee says and does.

RW media will, of course, give them full coverage. The rest of the media should ignore McCarthy's committee as illegitimate. But they won't. They will drool over the controversy of two committees.

Republicans are setting up their own alternative government within Congress. Is there any way to stop them from doing this? Can their witnesses be arrested for the lies they will tell (after they tell them)? It isa criminal offensr to lie to Congress.
