McCarthy can pull her off of it because she was named by Pelosi, not McCarthy. If McCarthy isn't suggesting any names, then Pelosi can pick any combination of Republicans and Democrats she wants, but they have to be current Members of the House per the authorizing resolution. Romney is in the Senate so he's not eligible.

Right now we are in a fight to preserve our democracy. Liberals and Conservatives fought (and died) side by side fighting to defeat Hitler. If American patriots had not united in that struggle, and put almost all of our differences aside during WWII, I can't began to imagine how horrific the world would be today (well actually I can, just read or watch The Man in the High Castle.)

It should be a low bar to get over, cherishing and defending our democracy, that even Republicans should have no trouble clearing. Unfortunately Liz Cheney is the exception and not the rule. She is therefor showing political courage by defending our Constitution and is my ally in this critical fight.
