Said DeSantis: These vaccines are saving lives.

Usually, that's how things work in Floriduh. The Virginia Graham Baker act is one of them.(has nothing to do with the tfg plague) Otherwise, we're just tourists and low priced workers in their version of paradise.

(1,992 posts)Remember when John Kerry was castigated as a flip-flopper?
aggiesal
(8,938 posts)Kerry said he'd voted for the Iraq resolution when there was a provision with timeline for withdraw included in the Resolution.
Bush was against the Iraq Resolution for the exact same provision because it had a timeline for withdraw and he threatened to veto.
When the timeline for withdraw provision was removed from the Resolution,
Kerry voted against it, and Bush then signed it.
So they both changed their initial vote for the exact same provision in the Iraq Resolution.
Yet Kerry got slapped with that 2 word bumper sticker phrase flip-flopper.

(81,638 posts)On the other hand, a strong majority of unvaccinated Americans do not appear to be swayed by new tactics to encourage getting vaccinated, such as door-to-door outreach or celebrity endorsements.
Among the unvaccinated, just a quarter or fewer say they would be likely to get the vaccine under certain circumstances. A vast majority remain unconvinced, showing how these vaccine holdouts may not budge anytime soon.
The scenarios that show the most potential for motivating people are if they could get the vaccine at their doctor or primary care providers office (26% likely) or if they were given paid time off by their employer to receive the vaccine (25% likely).
Fewer are convinced by a celebrity or public figure they like endorsing the vaccine (14% likely) or a community volunteer coming to their door (15% likely).
In all circumstances, a majority of the unvaccinated said they would be not at all likely to get the vaccine, regardless of the outreach effort.

(3,503 posts)Some folks just might change their mind. While changing one's mind not a Republican strong point, a lot of those talking heads on Fox are probably vaccinated. Maybe some of the "inspired" will have a change of heart once they see what happens second hand to those who don't.
I think that's one reason the folks in states and areas surrounding New York City have much higher than normal vaccine rates (even in the rural areas). Because they've seen almost first hand what COVID can do to people. A death of a coworker last March convinced me that I wanted a vaccine. That's even though I've had a family member react very badly to getting the vaccine.

(31,261 posts)Sometimes people seeing what they dont want to happen to them is a powerful motivator.
I was reading something earlier about a semi-rural Nurse who cares for Covid patients and is the person who has to meet the family when a patient dies. She has seen some resistant family members leave the hospital and get vaccinated.

(3,282 posts)a good baseball player and I assume had decent enough grades and test scores to not hurt their US News rankings. That's really all IVY league admissions are about. They want to get on top of the list, and you do that by having the highest SAT/ACT and GPA averages of incoming freshmen along with the lowest acceptance rates. It's just a numbers game, they will let good athletes in to play for them if they are close enough to not hurt the numbers and they will let powerful or rich families kids in no matter what, a new library is worth it and a few kids with C averages aren't going to hurt their composite too badly.
I'd be more upset about G W Bush getting into Yale.
