(2,573 posts)The Dems could pass all their legislation.
Not holding my breath, though.

(3,472 posts)I'll make a small correction as to how it should read: ANY lawmakers who helped insurrectionists SHALL face CRIMINAL prosecution.

(97,266 posts)Even more so - the "inside man" prompts, directs, helps to cover up the crime and protects.

(97,266 posts)Sadly.
A lot of folks rather have a feel-good narrative that claims redemption in some form or another - even where none exist.
To my thinking that kind of thinking allows the guilty to go free while gaining a measure of just how much they can get away with, and next time they'll try for more.
Democracy hasn't prevailed until the threats to democracy have been quashed. That doesn't happen if they get away with their actions.

(258,780 posts)They're pretty horrifying to me - and had to be a lot more horrifying if you were the target, a member of Congress.

(97,266 posts)So either the GOP members fully expect all violence to be directed at Democratic members only, meaning they are safe - or they simply don't care as long as they can gain power. Mostly likely both. I think both, anyway.
They would not have cared if Pence had been murdered and they probably feel the same about Cheney now. They would have come up with some lie to excuse the death of Pence. Just as they keep lying about that day and the deaths that happened then.
I re-watched the NYTimes' 40 minute timeline video ( "Day of Rage" ) on the attack the other night and I felt the same way I did on January 6th watching it on the news as it played out.
I felt sick to my core.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
