Either @Sen_JoeManchin fundamentally misunderstands climate change & climate policy, or he is lying.

(CNN) — Sen. Joe Manchin, the Democrats' most pivotal swing vote, expressed his most serious concerns yet about a key element in their party's $3.5 trillion sweeping economic plan: Provisions dealing with climate change that have been sought by progressives.

Manchin, who hails from coal-producing West Virginia, told CNN that he's "very, very disturbed" by provisions he believes would eliminate fossil fuels -- a warning sign for Democrats who need all 50 members of their caucus to sign off on the plan in order to get it through the Senate. But the climate provisions are key to getting support from liberals, particularly in the House.

And how Democratic leaders keep both factions of their caucus will be key to determining if they can approve much of President Joe Biden's domestic agenda by the fall.

"I know they have the climate portion in here, and I'm concerned about that," Manchin said moments after Biden met with Senate Democrats in the Capitol on Wednesday.

Some of his statements make me really worry about his mental health.

Opposition to voting rights (I mean in real life, meaning kill or modify the Filibuster) is signing his own pink slip. That is just crazy.

A mass extinction event to rival the asteroid impact 65 million yr ago, kicked off by humans and their rampant consumption of natural resources.

My daughter will get to see vast swathes of this planet literally become too hot to support human beings, and country after country collapse into war and famine. Billions will die or become refugees in her lifetime.

Shove your concern for oil and coal so far up your ass it becomes a diamond.

Maybe 16" of rain in eight hours wiping out a couple of mountain towns in your home state? Maybe the odd forest fire, or a record-crushing heatwave killing your constituents, or wiping out a fishery?

At this point, it's just a matter of time before climate disasters of different flavors visit all our states, and Joe Manchin can nighty-night sleep tight in the knowledge that he did his bit to destabilize the world and to permanently fuck the people he "represents".
