...Gas where I am is about $.54 more per gallon, which is to be expected due to seasonal demands. But, still, far from tripled. Has gas tripled for anyone else, or is this more BS McCarthy is making up?

...who, last year, paid $35.00 to fill up his truck. This month, it cost him $92.00. I drive a Jeep Grand Cherokee, and even if I used 87 octane last year, and then used premium now, I still don't get to $92.00. As I suspected, more GOP BS.
ProfessorGAC
(77,265 posts)If that guy is using 89 octane, (mid grade) he's buying less than 30 gallons, as their average price for 89 is $3.155/gal.
Gas would have had to $1.06 a gallon last year at this time.
I know it was lower that summer, but I don't believe it was that low.
Also, the last time gas in Arkansas was $4/gallon was when 43 was POTUS. Was that Biden's fault, too?
McCarthy is an idiot & a liar. This isn't a mistake. It took me 60 seconds to find this information.
I think they just made up this story

The causes of the shortages is multi-fold, the best one being that pent up demand is driving these shortages (makes sense). Also, the marketplace has been slammed w/ labor shortages (people not wanting to work while exposing themselves to the virus, a reasonable precaution).

(3,213 posts)I'm pretty sure it was over $3.00 during a large segment of Trump's term, and was definitely higher under Bush.
$2.95 is higher than it was a few months ago, but really not that surprising with Summer and people starting to travel again.
Then again, there are gas stations price gouging people. Drove to the DC suburbs this week and a Shell station had gas at $3.85, but then the station one block farther down the road was $3.14.

(3,000 posts)From around $2 to $4+ now. I'm getting killed here, I'd have to make an extra $1 per hour just to pay for the gas increase. Guess I'd better start saving for that $50k Tesla lol

(19,748 posts)Even if the threefold thing wasn't a lie, a gas price increase wouldn't prove anything by itself.
Demand for gas was relatively depressed last year because everyone was bunkered down trying to avoid COVID exposure to stay alive, but now with widespread vaccine availability people are resuming their old driving patterns. More driving, more gas demand, price up.
Also Inauguration Day is in the winter. We are now in the summer. Summer blend gasoline is always more expensive. What I'm seeing at the pump is more or less in line with my prior experience.

(34,996 posts)He also suffers from selective memory, as he's forgotten that gas prices plummeted in the year before Biden took office because his puppeteer massively fucked up his handling of a global pandemic, which caused the whole goddamn country to shut down. Gas was cheap, because nobody was using it. I'm still only tanking up about once every 2 or3 months, rather than monthly. He also forgets to mention that people were fighting over fucking toilet paper, disinfectants, hand sanitizers and wipes, and other household and food staples.
Gas hasn't even close to "tripled" where I live. I don't remember what it was when Biden took office, but it had already gone up substantially from its low point by that time. And, some of the recent increases were due to that pipeline hack, which is the fault of the owners, not Biden. Price never went back down after that, and nobody complained. They're only complaining no, because that's the narrative in Right Wing Land, and they're a bunch of fucking parrots who repeat what they're told, without putting an ounce of thought into it.

I noticed it soon after the Colonial Pipeline hack and the big Texas freeze.
Zip to do with Biden. But McCarthy knows that and has to say it anyway to rile up the cult.

Gas around here is ~$4.50/gal (and I'm in one of the higher priced areas of California), up from about $4 at the beginning of the year. Prices fluctuate a lot, but it's been $4 +/- $1 for a long time now.
