Tom Barrack continued bail hearing moved from Monday to TODAY

The continued bail hearing for Trump ally Tom Barrack has been moved to today (it had been scheduled for Monday) in Los Angeles, per EDNY.

Barrack was ordered detained following his initial court appearance on Tuesday.

The unstated purpose of his detention now is to allow him to consider fully a life behind bars, and want to flip to avoid that.

But he is a total flight risk.

9. I don't understand it.

I don't understand the passivity in the WH when it comes to retention of this kind of Trump appointee, and appointment of someone like Garland.

It's part of this notion of retaining institutional traditions while the other side has the knives out and the impetus to gut every Democrat and replace democracy with autocracy.

Bipartisanship is a false construct and a trap when the other side has gone for autocracy. Comity is a trap. Congressional "traditions" are a trap. Commissions are a trap.

If Dems in Congress and the WH don't seize the power granted them by the electorate, all will be lost. ALL will be lost.

The old rules are meaningless. Republicans are coming for us with knives and bombs and poison pills.

If getting action means that some elders must step aside from committee chairs and leadership positions, then make it happen. There ARE senators and representatives with fire in the gut for democracy and with significant skills to move America forward, away from stasis.

Whitehouse. Schiff. Jayapal. Swalwell. Many, many talented and impassioned members of Congress. Let them loose.

17. CNBC article posted earlier:

Friday, Falcon Acquisition, a special purpose acquisition company backed by Barrack, told the Securities and Exchange Commission it is withdrawing its registration statement with the agency "because the company has elected to abandon" planned transactions.


The transactions had included an initial public offering of 25 million shares to raise $250 million for Falcon Acquisition, which was formed by Barrack's family office Falcon Peak, and TI Capital.

Falcon Acquisition, which had planned to list its shares on the New York Stock Exchange, had said it was targeting tech-driven businesses as candidates for mergers.

A lawyer for Falcon Peak did not immediately respond to a CNBC request for comment.

18. Prosecutors in his arrest claimed, Barrack is a flight risk!

Well DUH!!

The prosecutors said he is "an extremely wealthy and powerful individual with substantial ties to Lebanon, the UAE, and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia" who could leave on on his private plane.

They said Barrack has "deep and longstanding ties to countries that do not have extradition treaties with the United States."

The court better respect this statement!


Then this too :

Prosecutors had asked at Barrack’s first court appearance in L.A. on Tuesday that he be detained until at least he appears in court in Brooklyn for another hearing because of the risk that he could flee to avoid facing the charges.

A Barrack spokesman declined CNBC’s request for comment on the bail hearing change.
