AP-NORC poll: Most unvaccinated Americans don't want shots

https://news.yahoo.com/ap-norc-poll-most-unvaccinated-144516547.html

Most Americans who haven’t been vaccinated against COVID-19 say they are unlikely to get the shots and doubt they would work against the aggressive delta variant despite evidence they do, according to a new poll that underscores the challenges facing public health officials amid soaring infections in some states.

Among American adults who have not yet received a vaccine, 35% say they probably will not, and 45% say they definitely will not, according to a poll from The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research. Just 3% say they definitely will get the shots, though another 16% say they probably will.

What's more, 64% of unvaccinated Americans have little to no confidence the shots are effective against variants — including the delta variant that officials say is responsible for 83% of new cases in the U.S. — despite evidence that they offer strong protection. In contrast, 86% of those who have already been vaccinated have at least some confidence that the vaccines will work.

That means “that there will be more preventable cases, more preventable hospitalizations and more preventable deaths,” said Dr. Amesh Adalja, an infectious disease specialist at Johns Hopkins University.

My Grandma was a young wife and mother at the time.

I mean young.

She married at 15.

She told me whole farm families would be found dead.

I one case a young child was the only one left.

She walked to the nearest neighbor.

She was about 5 years old.

Go to some old cemeteries and you will find these.

I looked up old pictures on the net, thought about how contagious and deadly it was and shivered. I was grateful when I was finally able to wade through the confusing web sites and get vaccinated.
The Spanish Flu was nothing to mess around with. COVID-19 isn’t either.

I don’t think that we can reach the wing-nutz, even with certain R’s finally changing their tune about how serious COVID is and the need to get vaccinated. I fear that tens of thousands of these people are going to pay with their lives or good health for believing right-wing propaganda.

The Spanish flu was around for awhile.

My Baby Aunt who I was named after died in 1920 from it.

My Grandma had the death certificate.

My father took me to her grave when I was little.

In a little country town.

A family plot.

It weird seeing my name on the headstone.

It was was a tough time.

And we have bigger population now.

My Grandparents lived on a farm.

A lot of people did.

I am staying home now.

I am going to survive.

My friend who works security in a big mall here watches the security cameras.

Most people are not wearing masks.

So.

maybe into the year after that too.

Still too many dumb Americans out there who fell victim to trump's stupidity in poo pooing the virus and not modeling wearing masks. We could've been over covid now if he had.

My one Grandfather was in the Army hospital in WWI.

Wounded.

He said that the flu victims were put in tent hospitals by themselves.

Most of them died.

Just think what they would do for simply shot.

eventually get vaccinated.

Biden said yesterday that full FDA approval of vaccines could come as early as the end of August. Sometime between then and October. Pfizer is farthest ahead in the process.

That'll cut a lot of both legal and argument ground out from under the refusers and further empower employers and others to require vaccination.

What people are saying is that the vaccines are somewhat less effective against Delta-- not ineffective.
Current information shows that to be true, although the percentages are yet uncertain.. None of the vaccines are 100% effective against any variant.

It is an argument for continued masking, and I happen to agree with it.

they will continue to expose numerous retail and entertainment workers to possible infection every day.

In addition, they also expose far too many people to their poisonous right-wing dogma via social media and public encounters.

There will be fewer morons impacting the gene pool.

The hospitals should just start turning these people away when they show up. Send them home with a package of the doggie heartworm meds and wish them luck.

Announce the death counts that way in fact. Divide it into vaccinated and unvaccinated–nearly none vs. nearly all, respectively. People need that kind of statistic to cut through the misinformation and foolishness.
