who is insisting that (1) children don't get severe cases and (2) we should just throw a mask on the kids (rather than taking responsibility for the possibility that we - as vaccinated individuals - could transmit COVID to them.

Until children are allowed to be vaccinated, it is irresponsible for us to rely on our vaccination, alone, to protect them. Mask up. Social distance.
