What will the Select Committee discover?

That Trump solicited this mob to come to Washington and that he knew the make-up of much of the crowd was inclined to violence?

They Trump conspired with several sitting Congressmen to persuade these folks and Trump supporters that the election was rigged?

That it was a wide-spread conspiracy to over-throw an election?

That it was promoted and paid for by arms of the Republican Party?

That it was all a diversion and distraction from the fact that Trump and his cabal themselves were the ones who had tried to steal the election?

That the only grievance the mob had was that they believed the election was stolen from their Leader?

That they were not a peaceful bunch of people but were criminal in their words and actions?

That a criminal element had taken over our White House and our government and were working with foreign agents to further their cause?

That it was the biggest scandal ever in the history of our country?

...where they think somehow a President is above the law and should not be prosecuted because it would only divide the country.

The opposite should be the mindset. The President should be held to a higher standard. They should be severely punished if they break the law.

It changes nothing. The right will dismiss it all as a witch hunt and become further entrenched in their hateful beliefs. I mean, come on, these people, against overwhelming evidence, still insist that the election was stolen, and that Donald is a god-like savior of the nation and that any evil, in his holy name, is justice!

That is not to say that the investigation doesn't have to be done. The historical record will need to record that there were some people who fought against right-wing tyranny. Win or lose, we have to be able to preserve the facts that there was still something in the country that was worth saving whether we save it or not. We have to resist, or we are unworthy to survive as a Representative Democracy.

I am not optimistic about the path we are traveling, and I am not confident that truth will prevail. Minority populations have led many countries down the path to destruction, throughout history, and we are not so special as to be immune from the process. We are balanced on a razor's edge and it won't take much of a push to fall either way.

The continuing attack on truth weakens our defenses and it becomes a matter of when the wall will crumble and the hoards of army of anger enter our fortress. The next congressional elections will be the acid test, if we fail to maintain a majority, we are doomed, regardless of the Presidential election that follows. We have to elect Democrats if we are going to survive.

If I could see some way, going forward, to convince the right of the error of their ways I would feel more confident in our survival, but I simply don't know what it would take. I am so sad to be watching a replay of the 1930s knowing what is bound to follow.

You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink.

They can only do their best to discover the truth and tell the American people. The people will do with it what they will.

But, they must trudge onward. The truth must be uncovered.

Much will depend on our Justice System, in my opinion. When one of the big shots plead guilty or is sent to jail, that tends to put a different perspective on matters.

There is no doubt in my mind. He incited that crowd, along with Rudy, Don Jr, Mo Brooks, and others. But he was the leader of the insurrection.
