(15,084 posts)He was in college in the 70s - long hair and driving a VW bug through a very rural area in Northern California with a buddy. Two sheriffs pulled them over - tail light out or some such BS. While cop #1 was checking his license and registration, the other cop went around the other side, dropped a baggie of pills in the back seat on the floor. "Well now, what have we here?"
They would have been railroaded into prison immediately except for the fact that cop #2 asked for the buddy's ID and when he recognized the last name as a powerful man in the community, there was all kinds of back tracking and apologizing happening.
The cops are no different from the robbers. Except for the badge and the bad hair cut.

(3,635 posts)The only way to solve this issue is to bust the unions and rehire based upon merit. Alot of what cops do also is financially motivated. More crime is actually good business for them and so they prefer conditions that require more hiring of police and more overttime. IOW, it's a moral hazard.
The left is usually pro-union, and so the cops use this to shield themselves, and of course the right will never seek to reform the police.
It's why people can march against systemic racism all day long - the cops don't give two shits about any marches or protests. They live above the law because they know they have zero accountability.

(26,326 posts)With video: Caledonia Police chief responds to allegations officer planted evidence
CALEDONIA The Caledonia Police Department announced on Saturday afternoon it would be conducting a comprehensive internal review after cellphone video surfaced online that appeared to show a CPD police officer planting evidence in a vehicle.
The video has been widely circulated on social media.
In the video, shot from within the front-seat area of the vehicle, the officer can be seen walking up to the vehicle, throwing something small and white into the back seat, then preparing to put on his gloves.
The video then pans to show a baggie on the back seat of the vehicle.

(18,252 posts)who had been sitting sitting in the back seat?
The cops released the relevant "baggie" excerpts from the bodycams of 2 different cops. They posted one video of the empty bag being found in the pocket of one of the passengers and then being handed handed off to another cop. The other video was of the same exchange that GlockBoy Savoo filmed. There were no edits in the excerpts that the cop released.
The video appears to have been removed from GlockBoy Savoo's facebook page, and a local newspaper (The Racine County Eye) was unable to reach him for a comment.
I'm not sure what's more remarkable, that anyone would actually advocate that there is no need for investigations or that anyone would dig in to defend an instagrammer who so clearly played his audience and fans with a 16 second video that contains a cut.

Fuck that janky shit,
Even the PD Chief said he's "discouraging" his UNI's from throwing trash back into peoples vehicles.
The LEOs actions not matter the intent doesn't INCREASE public trust in cops when it comes to black people ... PERIOD

(18,252 posts)Releasing a 16 second cut video claiming to have caught police planting evidence in your car when you know that it was an empty bag that belonged to one of your passengers.
He gets extra janky points for being unavailable to speak to the local press.
uponit7771
(90,335 posts)... no matter what the LEOs intentions are.
He gets extra janky points for removing the video from his social media page and being unavailable to speak to the local press.
Also irrelevant, the person had a duty to society to report what he saw and coorperate with the police. After that he isn't obligated to do shit else including keeping a video that has already went viral or talk to the media.
Could care less if the victim talked to anyone I care more about LEOs keeping GOOD relationship with the communities they're serving.
This LEO did nothing to further than relationship with tossing items into a persons car out of frame.
lapucelle
(18,252 posts)but that doesn't make it true.
It's relevant because the cop was not caught planting evidence; he was "caught" tossing an empty bag that belonged to a passenger back into the car. The cop was also "caught" explaining exactly that to the guy who posted the misleading video.
Effete Snob
(8,387 posts)Nobody got arrested for the "planted evidence" which is obviously an empty bag.

(8,387 posts)During this stop, a cop found a piece of trash on an occupant of the vehicle, handed it to another cop, who put it back in the car.
Nobody was arrested. Nobody was beat up. The occupants of the vehicle returned to the vehicle and proceeded on their way, presumably with whatever you believe was "planted" in the car. But nothing ever came of it.
And this was all part of an intentional plan to, I guess, put an empty plastic bag into a car, and is the same thing as choking someone to death?
A plan so devious that it has no point, no payoff, nothing in it for anyone!
The guy who posted the video, however, KNEW where they bag came from, but you trust that person, yes?

(2,217 posts)If this cop does not see the most extreme charges possible then the community's law enforcement needs to be shut down. All cases that this officer was involved in need to be reviewed and dropped. The FBI needs to examine every file and the finances of everyone involved in this police department.

(12,369 posts)Wisconsin police hit back at social media video accusing officer of 'planting evidence'
The incident happened Wednesday at about 3:22 p.m. when officers from the Village of Caledonia Police Department conducted a traffic stop for a vehicle traveling 63 mph in a 45 mph zone. The driver was identified by her drivers license, and two rear passengers who were not wearing seatbelts were asked to identify themselves and were later removed from the vehicle, police said.
The front passenger, who police say lawfully declined to identify himself, recorded a video on his cell phone that was later posted to social media with the caption, "Cop caught in 4K planting evidence."
It shows an officer appear to toss something in the back seat, before the front passenger tells him, "I got you on camera, bro." The officer responds, "I got you on camera, were all good."
It now looks like this was a case of an attempted gotcha on the officer.
I shudder to think what would have happened to this officer if not for the different body cam angles.
Another excellent reason all police officers should be wearing body cameras.
Ms. Toad
(34,069 posts)I suspect the front seat passenger really was concerned about what had been thrown in the car.
But I do see it as a reason to not jump to conclusions.
The comments in the police department thread (and many here) were obviously made by people who hadn't bothered to watch either of the other two videos (one of which was posted in the same thread).
From the snippets I saw, however, I don't see a valid reason for the search that exceeded a terry stop search (pat down permitted, but you don't get to pull things out of pockets unless they are obviously dangerous or evidence of a crime). Once the search was over - and apeared to reveal nothing, he was handcuffed. In my give-a-moose-a-muffin mantra for Criminal Procedure - there has to be something to trigger each elevation in search or seizure. A corner tear they acknowledged contained no contraband (the most nefarious thing they found in the search) doesn't seem to justivy elevation to an arrest.
There may have been more in the videos I don't see. But based on what I could see - I'd be one pissed young man.

... and we're supposed to think this is all not janky.
They're gas lighting
Ms. Toad
(34,069 posts)There was a lot that led up to that toss. The arrest was before the toss. (Or perhaps simultaneous with it). The corner tear came out of the pocket of the guy put in handcuffs.
At any rate I was responding to someone who seemed to be suggesting that the passenger, not the officer, was attempting a gotcha to smear the officer. You might want to re-read the post i responded to. I was defending the passenger.
uponit7771
(90,335 posts)... ass covering mode I misread your post.
What pisses me off is the PD Chief knows the LEO tossed the item out of body cam frame then gloved up.
That IN AND OF ITSELF is fucked up
lapucelle
(18,252 posts)his questions. However, when he posted his 16 second video (with a cut), he knew where the bag came from and that there was nothing in it. I think he misled his audience/followers.
As for the search, on the cop's bodycam video, you can hear the cop asking the passenger's permission. It's probably technically legal, but asking for permission seems (on its face) coercive, and that needs to be addressed, possibly through the legislature or the courts.
I watched the video twice because I thought the passenger was being cuffed after the search, but it looks to me that he was handcuffed for the search and then the handcuffs are removed after the search. Whether its SOP (or legal) to handcuff someone during a voluntary search is a question that the police need to answer.
There were no arrests, according to the police, but a traffic citation was issued.

(90,335 posts).... world does different angles help this?
The toss back in the car is janky in and of itself and that's enough to fuck peoples lives up ... wtf people ?!
Effete Snob
(8,387 posts)I get what you mean.
Yeah, he handles it with his bare hands, making sure his own fingerprints would be on the "planted evidence" and then puts his gloves on.
Either that or maybe he wasn't too concerned about something handed to him by another cop, and was not expecting to come into contact with the occupants or their possessions in the first place.
But, yes, of course, it makes all kinds of sense. When they are planting evidence, they want to make sure they get credit for it by putting their own fingerprints on it.

(32,701 posts)As long as a cop says it, it must be true.
My take? He planted it on the other guy first then decided it would be better to plant it inside the car. Two for the price of one.
uponit7771
(90,335 posts)... clearly isn't when looking at the BC video.
The LEO tossed the item out of BC frame then gloved up, no matter what the intentions those actions do not INCREASE trust towards LEOs when it comes to black people.
Even the PD Chief says he's "discouraging" people throwing items back into cars ... cause yeah normally they do janky shit like that all the time.
