Jackie Mason, the famed stand-up comedian known for his bringing his Jewish sensibilities and Yiddish culture and delivery into his irreverent routines straight from the Borscht Belt, has died. He was 93.
Mason's death was reported by The New York Times as told to them by his lawyer Raoul Felder. He died at a hospital in Manhattan on Saturday. No cause of death was given.
Mason was a Tony and Emmy winner famous for his one-man shows on Broadway, and for playing the voice of Rabbi Hyman Krustofski, or Krusty the Clown's dad, on "The Simpsons."
Once a rabbi from Sheboygan, Wisconsin and born to a family of strict Orthodox Jews from a long line of rabbis, Mason got his start doing standup in the Catskills but managed to keep his career thriving long after the Catskills resorts closed their doors, especially through the '80s, in which in 1986 he won a Tony for his one-man show "The World According to Me."

The truth is the Jewish people have a lot to be grateful to him, and owe him at the least, a little bit of respect.
Trump reinitiated regional unity in the Middle East. The region really rallied around his long-reaching vision. Whether its the move of the embassy to Jerusalem, a campaign promise to which every president for decades has given lip service, and which Trump followed through with, to his leadership in getting many of the Gulf States to the side of peace with his Abraham Accords.

Lets hope Biden doesnt muck it up, and not even remember he mucked it up. The fact he wants to get back in the Iran nuclear deal is enough to make anyone scream Dayenu!

Aging conservative comic says the president 'should be locked up'
He previously slammed Obama for holding a White House Hanukkah observance 12 days early in order to fit it in with his vacation plans
Mason has faced accusations of racism in the past, following a stand-up act in which he used he Yiddish word 'schvartze' to refer to the president
Obama, he said last year, was 'completely crooked lowlife' after news reports claimed the White House leaked Israel's plan to attack Iran

(32,013 posts)There is the "great at art, awful political views" category (Eric Clapton, Dave Mustaine, John Cusack) where I'd put Mason (as a millennial I'm not too familiar with his work other than what I've seen in the news).
And there is the "great at art, shitty at being human" category of stars who have committed crimes against other people (R. Kelly, Tupac Shakur, Phil Spektor).

I'm sure there are lots of other famous people who belong on those lists, but those are the first ones that popped into my head.

I'm sure that he was very talented, and many people will miss him, but I'm just not able to muster up any feelings about this.

(19,190 posts)outside of the Carnegie Deli (where else) in NYC. He was gracious enough to talk to my daughter and I for a few minutes, and in that few minutes a small crowd gathered. Always the entertainer, he put on a small impromptu act for them.
I felt guilty intruding on him like that, but later on I thought maybe he enjoyed it. This was probably 10 years ago or so, and I like to think he was happy people still recognized him and remembered his work. I'd never heard about his comments about President Obama.
He was very gracious man to my daughter and I, and I'm sorry to hear of his passing.

The only thing I really know him from was the Carl Reiner/Steve Martin film "The Jerk". He was pretty good as Mr. Hartoonian the owner of the gas station who gave Navin Johnson his first job and "apartment".
However, I had never heard the things about him that were mentioned in this thread and they are very disappointing.
Well, RIP anyway.
