(7,431 posts)All that needs to be asked is, "What would Trumpy-Boy demand of McCarthy?", and you have predictability. McCarthy is Trump's lap-boy. Everything he says originates from Trump.

(7,627 posts)he will lose everytime and look like a damm fool. This is a great move to enable Republicans who are anti trumpers to sit on this committee. Maybe this will spur some others to take back their party from the magats.

(2,807 posts)Which we need to do a better job of doing. We MUST siphon off enough sane Republicans to keep majorities in the Senate and House.

(3,433 posts)I suspect that the decision to pull out completely from the select committee was influenced by Trump. The instant that Trump supporters breached the Capitol, it was a no win situation for the Republicans.

Sure the base would be pissed, but the GOP would have had 2-4 years to rile them up on hate for the left. TFG wouldn't have been able to run again, he'd basically be a total has-been, & they could look for their next authoritarian strongman, one who isn't as incompetent, corrupt, & repulsive as TFG.

"That would be my plan," she said when asked by ABC's George Stephanopoulos if she wanted to add him. CNN reported last week that Pelosi was eyeing Kinzinger to bolster the panel.
Kinzinger, a vocal Republican critic of Trump who was one of 10 House Republicans to vote for his second impeachment, would join Rep. Liz Cheney of Wyoming as the only Republicans on the new select committee.
The Illinois Republican has been telling people in recent days he'd accept the appointment if offered, according to a source familiar with the matter.
