(13,919 posts)I dont particularly want to die or face a long term disability because of these questionable quivering Qristains.
And every one of them that refuses is another chance for delta to spread, and another chance for another mutation to happen.
If only we could set up doses of vaccine in those darts they use to shoot dangerous animal with tranquilizers, and set a bountys for those who can vaccinate the most unvaccinated folks.

(10,156 posts)for well over a year the whole thing was a hoax, shutdowns and wearing masks were part of a liberal plot to take away their freedoms, the vaccines were unproven and would hurt them, and it would only affect other people. Blaming democrats because they want to vaccinate as many Americans as possible is just mindless.

(14,854 posts)What are the black churches doing to convince their members to get vaccinated, and to help them do so by providing rides and such?
Dreampuff
(778 posts)Did double as vaccination sites on Sunday morning when the vaccine was really hard to come by. Many of them were churches with majority black congregations. But you're right. I imagine some areas aren't doing that. My location is Southern, although we aren't actually like the Southerners in States north of us.
Some of the black people fear getting a vaccine because they had been used as guinea pigs in the past. White people don't have that excuse and I think it is just their stubborn and redneck attitude and their love for the orange one and they are endangering all of us.

As pointed out elsewhere it seems that many African American churches are involved in trying to reassure people to convince them to get vaccinated.

(45,427 posts)Tuskegee is often mentioned but there are plenty of recent examples of discrimination in treatment. It's mostly about racist southern docs refusing to prescribe lifesaving treatments to "undeserving" people rather than maliciously injecting bad stuff into them.

(14,854 posts)This story is about the politics, but religion is a huge factor too. The churches should be leading the charge to convince people to get vaccinated, arrange and provide transportation for those who need it, and make their sites available as vaccination centers. But instead, so many of the churches in this part of the world are actively preaching against the vaccine. What's to be done about that? I don't know if anything can be done.

(7,787 posts)I have no sympathy for this. Usually these nuts socialize their pain for whatever benefit their private insanity provides. For once, a greater share of their pain falls on the people who deserve it. And I'm grimly satisfied to watch them suffer their own fucking harm for once. The only reason I care *at all,* is that they are going to clog up the healthcare system once again. And because they will also take down a small but real number of people around them who don't fucking deserve it.

(2,425 posts)...they always deflect the question and start talking about how it's all China's fault and the Wuhan lab. I should share with them...if China wanted to destroy the Republican party, all they'd have to do is spread disinformation about the dangers of the vaccines. It's Trump Republicans who are getting and spreading the illness like wildfire. Just something to think about.
MustLoveBeagles
(11,591 posts)that would give anything to have an abundance of vaccine. A small but loud minority of Americans behave like tantrum throwing toddlers. It's not just southerners or trumpers either although they may make up the majority. If these people were only hurting themselves I wouldn't care as much. There are immune compromised people and kids under 12 that they're endangering with this dumbassery. Local health officials are misdirecting their anger at Biden and the Democrat's. They should be angry with trump, wrong-wing radio and tv personalities, and most of the republican party.

(7,887 posts)Southern States in particular were built on the conceit of the rich land owners that everyone else was beneath them. EVERYONE Else. This is an extension of the same mindset that made serfs the property of the lord of the manor.
Throughout their lives the people who now follow TLG and his mania and who resist against anyone he names as the enemy have been told that anyone who appears to be above them socially or economically has stolen something from them. The implicit lie is that there is a fixed social class structure and that they aren't high enough up that ladder as long as someone else isn't beneath them. It is a twisted view of society and it has been handed down to them from our English forebearers from a time when a person's value was measured by how close to the royal family you could claim to be or conversely how far from God's right hand you were.
I do not excuse them on this basis. However it is important to understand that they have no clue how much they are themselves enslaved by this myopic racist perspective.
They have been carefully taught...

(4,291 posts)Not the least of which are:
- Spreading the virus to vulnerable people who may not happen to subscribe to their ideology; and
- Overwhelming the health-care system, which has a "cascade" effect on treatment of other patients who urgently need care.
Along that second point: two days ago, my next-door neighbor, who was jabbed months ago -- died because he suffered a pelvic fracture, but because a local hospital (in northeast Florida), was swamped with COVID patients -- most of whom are un-vaxed -- he passed. He was a Korean War veteran and deserved much better treatment than to be shuffled around and eventually sent to a "rehab" facility, which is where he died.
Who knows how many other non-COVID patients are being sidelined so that the current health-care system can respond to this heightened pandemic? What happened to the original concept of "triage" where those with the best likelihood of survival were given the highest priority?
While I'd very-much like to dismiss this instance as Karma kicking-in, I will continue to advocate for vaccinations, masking, social distancing, and other measures that would help us dig our way out of this nightmare. Rather than accelerating it. And yes, GOOBERnor DeathSentence, I mean you!
Personally, I don't want to lose any more family-members, friends, and neighbors to the Delta (Karma) Variant! I'd like for us to not only survive, but also use this chapter in our history to transform our political, health-care, and social systems to PREVENT further pandemic consequences.
Is that asking too much of the government that is supposed to provide for public safety, etc.?
