Since incentives have failed to get people vaccinated, I favor DISINCENTIVES

Issue COVID vaccination passports

No stick? No admittance to grocery stores. Delivery only, with surcharge if the grocer wishes.

No stick? No entry to public entertainment venues, restaurants, PERIOD.

No stick? No admittance to retail stores. Use delivery only.

You get the idea.

Uniform premiums are a hallmark of the Affordable Care Act. There are only 5 factors that can change the premium, and COVID/stupidity isn't one of them. (Smoking, age, geography, plan level, and one more I'm not remembering now)

(It would take legislation to change that. And, since we've just put down the last of the challenges to the ACA, no one who has any connection to chronic illness has any stomach to start down that road.)

I've said all along, there are two options:

Mandatory masks for everyone (at least until 0-11 year olds can be vaccinated) - or a vaccine passport of some kind. The presumption is that you can't be admitted unless you prove you are vaccinated (or at a very minimum, you must wear a mask until you prove you are vaccinated). None of this honor code crap, since the dishonorable cannot be trusted to act honorably.

But- I've also said no one has the stomach for the latter - so the former seemed the only option. BUT - sentiment seems to be changing.

our Gov Abbott and AG Paxton would overrule it like they have done so many times in the past. The only answer we have for Texas is elect less GOP more Dems and hopefully some of these hillbillies will either get vaccinated or just shrivel up and go away.

...would take a hard line. But, employment conditional mandates are, so far, rare, even in the health care industry.
The mandates that resulted in refusers being axed in NJ & TX made national news because of how unusual it was.
Two big employers around here, with union buy in, is threatening progressive measures.
Things like: salaried employees being ineligible for merit increases; hourly having overtime hours cut to as close to zero as possible; reassignment to positions where less contact is required, which are not for everybody, etc.
I don't know that they've pulled the trigger, but I know managers at both places and these discussions are serious.
We shall see.
Those 2 sites employ around 1,500 people. If they drop the hammer, I think others around here will.

has that as a condition of employment. Also masking (still) within the main office. Hand sanitizers practically every 20 feet, according to him. Shields on all doorknobs. Etc. etc. etc. He was very pleased. Also a bit surprised.

No health care beyond palliative care.

Forget the masks in airports and airplanes. No admittance to either without vaccine passport.

Employers allowed to require vaccines. Exceptions okay if worker works from home, but this is at employer's discretion.

All health workers must be vaccinated. No vaccination, no work. No excuses. No exceptions.

Draconian? Absolutely.

Legal? Probably not.

But being nice hasn't helped. Incentives only moderately useful.

John Donne:

No man is an island,
Entire of itself;
Every man is a piece of the continent,
A part of the main.

If a clod be washed away by the sea,
Europe is the less,
As well as if a promontory were:
As well as if a manor of thy friend's
Or of thine own were.

Any man's death diminishes me,
Because I am involved in mankind.
And therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls;
It tolls for thee.

No proof, then you have to wear a mask and continue to the open air back patio area.

This is a business clearly concerned about protecting the health of its employees and patrons.

I wish all food service establishments would do this.

If we as a country do this, there will be whining and screaming, then the idiots will acquiesce, and in a year they will have forgotten about it. They'll instead be worrying about what breed of dog Biden owns.

can certainly bring some big heat on this issue. Make it so tough on these cretins that their lives just SHUT DOWN. That should motivate them to vax up or suffer. Put them in the smallest box we can create for them. Signs on store doors to show your vax card or no go. They have the power. And the lawsuits will bring the issue out in the sunshine where it must be.
