my Iphone 10 locked totally up while in a game. This also happened last week and when I pressed and held the 2 side buttons to turn it off it made a loud siren sound and called 911. I apologized to the man. Then it righted itself and all was OK. Right now it has happened again and I am afraid to dial 911 again. Can Iphones be targeted by ransomware or what? I am not so good at tech stuff. Thanks for any assistance.

(4,008 posts)It blacked out and I touched the screen and it unfroze it. It has happened twice. I did the same thing with the SOS button at least I know how to do that if needed!

(7,843 posts)1. turn off Sos is one suggestion
2. if you keep Javascript off on Safari browser, advertising and chances of Iphone hacking drop by a massive amount.
however this will disallow some browsing features such as login to DU.
3. there exist other ways. i will let highly experienced folks comment on those
4. download Chrome for a 2nd browser.
5. the plain fact is that teaching advanced stuff about iphones via DU posts is not easy.
Therefore, ask around your neighborhood for a trusted tutor.

(1,109 posts)I agree with the details presented by Tetrachloride; however, if you install Google Chrome as a second browser, then be sure to monitor your iPhone battery usage, as Chrome "just-might (?)" use more juice than your Apple Safari browser.

(5,535 posts)and had to press/release(quickly) the up volume button, then the down volume button, and then hold the button on the right side in for awhile until the APPLE appeared on my screen. All set and I learned something today. Just want to pass it on. And thanks for all you good people here trying to help. G'nite all.

(81,859 posts)An important part of ransomware is the money request. I doubt it's ransomware unless you saw a ransom note. More likely, it is an issue with the phone. Could be battery or software. You can check your battery quality in settings. You might also want to make sure that you have free space and the phone has the latest software update.
