from Indianapolis Star:
Jon Schaffer, an Oath Keeper who stormed the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6 and who is also the guitarist for the heavy metal band Iced Earth, says he went through two months of hell while incarcerated in the Marion County Jail over his participation in the riot, The Indianapolis Star reports.
According to Schaffers lawyer, other inmates were throwing feces at him and urine at him and threatening his life in a horrible, horrible situation.
Shame on us, Judge, that this is happening in our justice system, Schaffers lawyer Marc J. Victor told the judge.
After being arrested on Jan. 17, Schaffer was held at the Marion County Jail until he was transported in mid-March to Washington D.C. to face charges.
During the two months he was incarcerated, Schaffer was kept in Administrative Segregation due to his high profile status. But weeks after being locked up, Schaffer said he feared for his life. Jail staff then received an emergency grievance from Schaffer, who said that three inmates were targeting him with death threats.

(2,409 posts)Not a peep out of the Republicans about all the shit and piss their party peeps smeared all over the USA Capitol on January 6.
So we must assume they are cool with feces schmeared all over the damn place, as long as it is viewed in the context of "owning the libs."
That's how debased the GOP has become.

(5,268 posts)This story makes me think of the quote from Fyodor Dostoevsky, which he coined after spending some time behind bars.
"The degree of civilization in a society can be judged by entering its prisons."
Maybe one day Republicants will start to rethink the whole prisons for profit model.

(96,043 posts)When the state takes custody of a citizen, it assumes a duty to keep that person safe. The state routinely fails in that duty.
That said, there is something in me which appreciates the spectacle of a person playing at revolution from the right discovering the consequences of his game being taken seriously. Almost all the people who showed up to overthrow the United States government on January 6 are of a sort who any observer would expect to fare poorly in any of this country's jails.
