(305 posts)surmise that hes looking to see where packets were being sent to or coming from. The assigned IPs would give that info.
Im not sure what that would prove or disprove. With that said I had no idea that voting machines were connected to the internet. I always thought it was a local network.

As for being only on local networks alas, no. Some of us were concerned about lack of security as long as 20 years ago. I dont know how secure most of those systems are to this day.

(13,552 posts)I own a video router. Used to have a router for the computer but don't need it anymore. There is nothing it them but electronics to split a signal and send it to 2 or more places.
TV stations have hundreds of them. To send video to various parts of the building or to different monitors. They don't hold data.
