If they refuse a subpoena, hold them in contempt.
If they still refuse to testify, send the FBI to their doors.
No one should be permitted to ignore a subpoena from the US Congress.

(9,998 posts)I really don't allow myself to get sucked in anymore, to the belief that powerful or connected or wealthy people who do bad things, will ever really get in trouble for them.
I'm sure there will be an uproar amongst our side, and networks like CNN & MSNBC will have guests who tell us how horrible it is, and that what they're doing is reprehensible and blah, blah, blah. Then a few days later, they'll be on to the next news story of the day.
There was a time where things like this would rile me up, but now I pretty much expect it.

(94,548 posts)As a Member of the House, the Sergeant at Arms can compel attendance of a subpoenaed member. If the member leaves the Capitol and the DC jurisdiction (think Texas Democrats) its impractical to have him returned, but then the House member isn't going to have ability to vote on legislation. Nobody is going to refuse a Committee Subpoena.

(43,353 posts)Trump has set a new virulent, viscous, lawlessness-embracing, norm-breaking (both formal and informal) tenor and tone that the Rethugs now operate under as a general course of shitbaggery.

(43,353 posts)It is why I used the term Age of Trumpism, which carries on even with the progenitor of said modus operandi currently out of Executive power on a formal Constitutional basis.
