He is a loyal GOP voter, but at least he seems to have a soul. Meanwhile, his chances of staying in Congress are slim, even though right now he has far more campaign cash that his potential primary opponents . That will change as soon as the GOP figures out which trumper they want, and the out of state money floods in. Also, there is a good chance his seat will be cancelled as IL lost a seat, or he could be gerrymandered.
" A couple of months later, after McCarthy had warned Republicans that theyd risk losing the rest of their committee assignments if they accepted an offer from Speaker Nancy Pelosi to serve on the Jan. 6 Select Committee, Kinzingers response was more terse.
Who gives a shit? Kinzinger told reporters."

(22,031 posts)Representative Cheney is not a friend of the Democrats. She and Kinzinger may be patriotic Americans but their policies generally suck.

Their policies still leave a lot to be desired.

(3,240 posts)It's pretty sick that republicans lose committee assignments for looking into truth. That right there tells you who they are.

(15,082 posts)Is that it's not up to him. The entire House votes whether to strip someone of committee assignments. Correct me if I'm wrong. Remember Margie?

(1,000 posts)Back in the late 70's and eighties our Republican counterparts were our friends and neighbors. The Republican County Chair lived around the corner from me in our rural district. He was in the habit of bringing the ladies boutique chocolates on election day. I was the most diversity we had, a flaming young liberal, you had equal numbers of D's and R's among those sweet old retirees. It all changed during Bush II under Karl Rove and Newt. All of a sudden "picking chads" was a Federal crime and the Brooks Brothers riot ensued. I had been sitting on election night for years across from my Republican counter part with a pair of tweezers and a stack of computer cards the reading machine kicked out. We would hold up a card, check for three corners free and one corner hanging on, and devine voter intent on the hanging chad, by mutual agreement. Those were the days.
It didn't start with Karl and Newt. It started with Barry Goldwater in 64, and was put on steroids by Nixon in 68, Paul Manafort, Roger Stone, Lucianne Goldberg, Lee Atwater-the "dirty tricks specialists." Barry Goldwater was a gentleman compared to what came next. Newt and Karl never even bothered to pretend, winning was all that mattered.
And here we are. Gym is a "winner." And Adam Kinzinger is committing political suicide.

(9,238 posts)Yes. In more ways than one: 'Daisy', 'in your guts you know he's nuts'. Next time, the Republicans responded with interest.

(43,128 posts)But the fascists must be defeated first, in multiple elections, the fascist ideology must be exposed and trounced. Then Kinzinger will seem a bit like Honest Abe in the 1840s.

(3,471 posts)Getting back to a healthy political system will require the Republican Party to wither away like the Federalist Party and the Whig Party. The same cycle that played out in those situations (the other major party dominates for a couple of election cycles, until lack of external competition allows the party's internal divisions to reach critical mass, thereby creating a new opposition party) will then give us a "Progressive Liberal" versus "Third-Way Conservative" divide in which all legitimate (treason and sedition need not apply) viewpoints can find a home.
The opposition to Trumpism in that party was feeble and short. Its a reality tv show style fascist shitshow now and its not going to pull back from that.

That's as it should be. Being an elected representative should never be a "job-for-life" like some people treat it. That goes for a few Dems as well, but it's really true for the Repukes.

The tea party primaried him twice. He won the primary by larger margins than the GE.
Admittedly, T***p won this district by 16%, but I don't think that makes him a cinch to lose the primary.
