individual officers are committing violence against minorities.
But as Ive been saying since January 8, by and large the performance of the Capitol police officers on the ground during the insurrection was exemplary. (The performance of the higher-ups is a different matter.) It was everything we want from law enforcement: They deescalated violent situations when they could. They placed themselves in harms way in order to protect the members of Congress. It is a miraclea damn miraclethat only one of the insurrectionists was killed.
Many Republicans and conservatives are quick to defend the police any time they act unprofessionally. Shoot a black kid? They had a reasonable suspicion he might be armed. Choke black guy to death? He was resisting arrest. Black Lives Matter? ....
The situational nature of their support for law enforcement is revealing. When these people talk about backing the Blue what they really mean is that they support violence against their enemies. Blue Lives Matter, bitches.

He is a true hero.
So many shitbirds in that crowd were not honoring the oath that they took, Sgt stood tall.

(6,173 posts)As far as the "Blue Lives Matter" slogan is concerned, it's just a propaganda tool.
In reality, they hold the life of any Police Officer who opposed them in total disdain.
With a couple notable exceptions, the Republican members of Congress have no regard for this nation, or its laws. For them the law is just something you use against your enemies.
When it comes to their own criminal activity, the law does not apply.

(8,739 posts)Officers. I live in heavy red Trump/Christian rural NC. All local restaurants, gun stores, which there are many, barber shops, mom and pop stores, all proudly fly Back the Blue flags, text on windows and stores saying We Back the Blue. Most have Jesus signs along side. Betting they see nothing here today that embarrasses them. And those flags are code for trump, hoping not to lose business to anti trumpets. We are tourist dependent so they are hoping to keep the flow of cash from tourist they need. I want a sign stating I Back the Blue too, Capital Police Blue

(3,056 posts)I found that asking, "And just what is the problem with being Anti-Fascist?", usually ends the conversation. Lots of "deer in the headlights" with the occastional "But their tactics!" The level of stupid is scary.

(21,633 posts)As we speak, far-right Republicans, fellow-travelers - and possibly Needy Amin himself - are no doubt commiserating about "what went wrong that day."
And how to succeed the next time.
I hope and trust all the military bases (rife with extremist activity as some are) are being closely monitored; that's where many coup attempts elsewhere in the world have historically started.

(10,828 posts)It's a disgrace and it's disgusting. All that blather about Supporting the Blue was merely a tag line, a crock on January 6th. The Trump supporters don't give a f*ck about the cops or anyone else.
They only care about their orange-headed Messiah and getting their own way. And if you're in the way, they've revealed exactly what they are.
Traitors!
Meanwhile I read tonight that Officer Fanone has received death threats for his testimony. They played an audio sample of the filth he received on voicemail. His response? This is what happens when you tell the truth about Trump.
These people are not simply delusional. They're evil.
