If this committee intends to subpoena McCarthy and Trump,

they must answer two questions to themselves. If they refuse to show up, does the mechanism exist to force them to do so, and are they willing to use it.

If the answer is no to either of these questions, this investigation becomes the Mueller investigation.

It would be the SOS all over again if no, and show the dems as weak. n/t RKP5637 Jul 2021 #2

If the do not intend to do EVERYTHING they can and should do after the subpoena is used, then do not issue it!

Let's sing along

It's beginning to look a lot like fitzmass
Everywhere we go
High hopes heaped on the committe
To lock up all the shitty
People who did the crime but no...
It'll just melt and disappear like the snow....

No one will honor a subpoena and there will be no consequences for it and the dems will say there's nothing we can do ...

Sorry for pessimism but I've ridden this roller coaster too often since 2000

to keep them narrow in scope and properly worded they confirmed in McGahn case. The dems have that behind them now, if they fail to comply put the suckers in jail. I have also heard some pundits on TV say that the presidential privilege that Biden has confirmed there will be no privilege in this case, may be overturned by Trump. I read an article in Just Security confirms that is not the case at all, it is the current president that makes the decision.

... subpoenaing both of them now. Today's testimony warrants Trump, so that one is clear. There is nothing I recall, from today, about McCarthy, but there may be some supporting documents already in the committee's possession to have him appear, too...

... McCarthy will appear, but he will want some gentlemanly rules about being a member of Congress and whatever... he will blast off with complaints, but should be treated like every other witness.

--- Trump will not appear, of course. He will delay appearing for a long time. If and when he does testify, he will lie... he will be useless and may, in the end, just take the 5th - in writing.
