The Congressional Subpoena Must Be Re-Established

Last edited Wed Jul 28, 2021, 08:49 AM - Edit history (1)

If a subpoena from Congress can be ignored, why cannot a subpoena from any level be ignored?

First of all, we should not assume that much will change from the heart-wrenching testimony of the policemen that testified today.

(It was noteworthy that neither Mitch McConnell nor Kevin McCarthy watched the hearing today. How could they not watch such an important hearing?)

But the rule of law cannot be established until the power of the Congressional subpoena is re-established. It was common in the last Administration for everyone to simply ignore subpoenas from the Congress of the United States. They spat and shat on the rule of law. Attorney General William Barr made that possible.

The Select Committee should subpoena anyone and everyone that can help them get the facts about the failed coup of January 6th. The Dept of Justice should stand behind the Congress in their efforts. This is no time to waiver in our commitment.

If the Committee decides that they cannot get the full story without the testimony of Donald Trump, then they should subpoena him, also. If he refuses, it should be fast-tracked thru the Supreme Court. It is paramount that the American people see and understand that no-one is above the law.

When the Congress of the United States issues a subpoena, it must be obeyed. That is the only way we can return to the rule of law.

Does the Congress not have any methods to compel testimony without going through the DOJ? Can they not pass a rule that anyone who ignores a lawful subpoena will be arrested by the Sergeant at Arms and locked up? I asked this question multiple times during the previous administration and never understood why they can't do this.
