Simone, you are the greatest gymnast who has ever competed!
Now you are leading the call to destigmatize mental health concerns and, in so doing, you empower others to step back from chasing their goals in order to heal.

(5,431 posts)She owes us nothing. We owe her. She has given us so much of herself, of her life. She has exemplified fearlessness and self-confidence, and this is just another example of that. It took COURAGE to withdraw, not fear. She was able to rationally assess her condition and make a decision that I am sure she knew some would try to use to belittle her, yet she still did what she felt was best not only for herself, but for her team. She earns my respect.
And my love. 🥰

(2,234 posts)after that vault is that she is the worlds greatest gymnast. I think she saved her own life in more ways than one. Ive always been creeped out by gymnastics, but she will always be the GOAT in my book. I have unlimited respect and admiration for her.

(2,952 posts)Physical strength to save that aborted vault and land without injuring herself.
Mental/emotional strength to do what was right for herself by withdrawing from the competition, knowing she'd face criticism in some (Piers-Morgan-y) corners.
Still the GOAT

(23,678 posts)That org needs to be decapitated, dismantled, and rebuilt from the ground up.
Given what they did all these years in covering up the crimes of Larry Nassar and the abuses of certain coaches, it seems Lady Karma picked the right time to smack their asses with a Louisville Slugger.
As for SB, may she find healing. She should be in touch with other athletes who have dealt with similar issues (Michael Phelps, Allison Schmitt, Royce White, etc)

(1,529 posts)...and I have to wonder if not just the pressure of competing, but the questions and controversy about the German team decision to wear less revealing uniforms might have triggered something in her. This should be the last Olympics where any female athlete has to be nearly undressed to do what they love.

(1,910 posts)FU. It is absolutely epic what young people in many sports, especially those requiring individual activities, deal with. No time outs, no substitutions when injured, they perform time after time after time under pressure.
Simone is an inspiration to young athletes around the world and her critics are beyond worthless.
