Gym shorts, sweaty T-shirt and black tennis shoes. The man has no respect for anything.

(745 posts)be honest - if this was a dem senator would you have bothered to post? with the same amount of vitriol?

(5,078 posts)Senate is not that place. It is called respect. I still wear dress clothes to church for the same reason.

(745 posts)I suppose my reaction was more about the collective than you individually -
You see a post like this ridiculing a senator for something small and then another ridiculing some right-wing post ridiculing one of the democratic reps/senators over their dress codes.
Maybe they do come from different people.
That aside, personally, from a very deep - I hate dress codes mindset, always asking and wearing the acceptable minimum (are polos ok??), I applaud Ted here as I would any dem.

(42,862 posts)No, the "situation" didn't call for anything. CRUZ "called for it". It was HIS decision... NOT because of some surprise that was foisted upon him. Being disrespectful is what HE wanted to do. There wasn't anything "situational" about this that was unavoidable. He knew the vote was coming. This was not a surprise to him, not an interruption.
His most important responsibility is to his senate duties and his obligation to his constituents (and the nation)... he chose to play basketball intentionally create a situation where he could draw attention to himself. (If he had been swimming at the Y, would he have shown up in Speedos?)
He's just as bad as Jim Jordan. It's time for the RETURN of some basic institutional norms... and a professional dress-code among our elected representatives is one that's long overdue.

Its about the least odious thing about him. Now, I WILL say it would been slightly more classy of him to just move his court time by 2 hours, but that's just me.

(42,862 posts)Ted "let's-go-to-Mexico-while-Texas-freezes" Cruz is as contemptible as they come. He deserves NO "free passes" from anyone about anything.

Thread: Ted Cruz was busted today wearing a pair of Nike shoes that he said were headed to Goodwill in a 2019 tweet.
That tweet called for a boycott of Nike after they listened to Colin Kaepernick and dropped their Betsy Ross flag shoe.

The grey pair on the far right are the shoes he was wearing on the flight to Cancun.

(5,078 posts)members were near to taking a bill to the floor? And did he not have time to pull on a pair of street pants at the very least before leaving the gym? Or could it be that his party is sooo goood at stalling things that he never imagined there would be a vote today so why show up in the first place. Getting paid to play basketball is much more fun.

(91,010 posts)Theres no way that a conflict between a basketball game and a US Senate vote exists.
On a much smaller scale of things, I recall I was rather puzzled by one member of a county commission I was chairing complaining that the meetings interfered with his vacations and he was sorry about the missed meetings. By that time Id been on the commission for years and somehow had never had that problem. I rather dryly told him that I scheduled my vacations around the needs of the commission and not the other way around.
And by the way, dear iconoclastic DUers who think dirty sweaty gym clothes make some kind of statement we should be impressed with: grow up. Theres a time and a place for everything, and your sartorial choices actually do say something about you.

(5,078 posts)If you googled Ted Cruz in gym clothes heading to vote you probably would find a free link. A number of papers carried it.
Here is one I found that does not have a paywall. Most of the newspapers in Texas do https://polinews.org/ted-cruz-showed-up-on-capitol-hill-to-vote-in-gym-clothes-because-he-was-reportedly-in-the-middle-of-playing-basketball/

Cruz is reprehensible enough in his politics. Attack him on that.
