Did Trump-backed Susan Wright's primary loss in TX embolden Mitch McConnell?

I know it's early, but Trump backing of Susan Wright in her Texas race seems as though it may have given McConnell and 17 Republican senators the freedom to vote for the bi-partisan infrastructure bill yesterday.

Remember, the day before he had half-a-dozen Republican senators come to his office for a private meeting.

Could he have seen a crack in Trump's armor?

Could he have seen what might be the demise of Trump's influence on the national stage?

He would be relieved if Trump wasn't playing king-maker and he may feel that the passage of the infrastructure bill would weaken Trump even more.

(And he must hate Trump for what he has called him in the past.)

TX-11 is a red district and it was a special election, but maybe it showed that the anti-Trump voters are more numerous and motivated than Rs believe.

4. I think McConnell is desperate to untangle the GOP from Trump's vicious grasp

He is making a calculated gamble here, as are the other GOPs who signed on, but I do think Wright's loss left the Trumpies reeling, and McConnell is nothing if not a good practitioner of timing.

All this is to say that I think you're exactly right: McConnell wanted to hit Trump after he's already been hit. It's a good thing. Trump is for sure bouncing off the walls enraged about this and GDP growth.

5. I think it may have been Trump's repeated recent attacks on McConnell..

as much as that. Hell, if he's going to attack those who have been nearly 100% sycophantic, regardless, then what is the impetus to do his bidding.

But, likewise, I think McConnell is reading the tea leaves. Not only is COVID killing off the base, but those independent women in the suburbs are now being joined by a lot of men in terms of their disgust at Trump and R's who have accomplished nothing.

7. They can't win in 2022 and 2024

running on obstruction alone. McConnell is not an idiot. He knows support for Trump will continue to decline and the plurality of America want's Congress to get things done. Trump has hardly been out of office for six months and he has been relegated to setting up grievance-fests in fairgrounds parking lots to stroke his fragile ego. With every next public speech, he gets more bonkers-nuts and it wont get "better". McConnell knows there will be a GOP and America without Trump and its high time to move on with governing the country

11. Sure they can. An article today says they can win the House

on Gerrymandering in 4 Southern states alone.

The Senate might be harder, but with all their voter restriction laws, Republican behavior doesn't really matter.

8. rump has cost them the Exec. branch of government, he cost them the Senate for the most part.

He lost them the House. He didn't, even w/ all of his jurisdictional picks of judges, didn't get any 'extra bumps' when he threw over 60 lawsuits against election results and lost literally everyone of them. He's a loser. He won't admit it, and never will.

9. Dems Voted in this Special Election and Were Probably the Deciding Factor in the Race.

Remember there were no Dems in the race. I've seen a lot of Dems commenting on Twitter that they voted to be sure the Trump endorsed Wright didn't win. I don't see how this can be considered a crack in Trump's armor because of these cross over voters. I still think Trump endorsed candidates will win the day in Republican Primary races where only Republicans are voting.

Another thing I'm wondering is how Mitch is profiting off running 100 pro-vaccination ads. This is way too unlike the old turtle to do this as a matter of concern for the good of the people. He's got to be wetting his beak somehow.
