Google is delaying its reopening and will require workers to be vaccinated against Covid-19

Google LLC will require employees who work out of its offices to be vaccinated, and is delaying the official reopening of its workplaces until October.

The Mountain View, California, company will have the vaccination policy in place in the U.S. in the next few weeks and in other areas of the world in the following months, CEO Sundar Pichai said in a blog post Wednesday. Meanwhile, employees will continue to be able to work remotely through October 18, said Pichai, who is also the CEO of Alphabet Inc., Google's parent company.

The search giant began allowing Bay Area workers to return to the office on a voluntary basis earlier this month. It had previously planned to fully reopen its offices in September.

Google's move comes amid a surge of cases of the delta variant of the Covid-19 virus. Last week, Apple informed workers of a similar delay in its reopening plans.
