Who knew? No wonder DU is having such a problem deciding if a word is allowed on any particular post and by whom. It depends on the mind-set of who is reading it!

Knowing them all is the key to a good education. However, for most words, the meanings are clear from the context. It's not all that difficult, really.

Context matters was one to the first things brought up in defense of using words. It is still a problem for those that think banning words themselves, just because one of the definitions of a common word, may be related to something sensitive for some. How is that supposed to fix the problem?

This argument here is centered around words. Words themselves are not the problem. The mind set of the speaker as perceived by the listener is.
Is the speaker being deliberate in his derision? Is the listener that wants a word banned, being too sensitive, or even perceiving the intent correctly. Or is the listener just being obtuse on purpose?

There is suppose to be a difference between saying a member is 'insert putdown' and saying their post is 'insert putdown'. Why is there no distinction when certain words are used when applied Republicans/Conservatives anti-people/99%/47%, etc and when used against members. I have seen post defending the insane Republicans actions because the poster use a controversial word.
Up until now, there was no problem. How is this not supporting Republicans because someone said something derogatory about them and other members wanted the post(s) hidden. Where were the Troll Hunters? After 12 years, things are getting out of hand around here.

The binder was an essential part of harvesting the crops. We then hauled the grain to a threshing machine with the team and a wagon. Almost every step involved hand labor.

Oh shit, I just dated myself
