Biden calls for $100 payments to newly vaccinated Americans

God this is so fucking embarrassing. The fact that americans need to be motivated like this, holy fuck.

(NEXSTAR) — President Biden will call on “state, territorial, and local governments” to provide $100 payments to newly vaccinated Americans as part of an extra incentive to boost vaccination rates, the Treasury Department announced on Thursday.

$100 is low enough that they can't whine that hard about it.

Also wonder who exactly would be paying for this?

I was both grateful and relieved when I was finally able to get vaccinated. It seemed like it took forever to get to my part of the state and I still had to drive a ways to the pharmacy where I could get an appointment, the sites closest to me were immediately overwhelmed. Now, there are several pharmacies, pharmacies in groceries, Walmart and a large state run site at the local mall, many taking walk-ins. And there are no longer lines even though my county is only at 65% and those 12-and-up will need to get vaccinated by the start of school in the fall.

their behinds with bucks to protect their own health. Especially now since it's so easy to get vaccinated now, as opposed to in Jan. and Feb. when it was so hard to get an appointment to get vaccinated. Now you can just walk into the pharmacy chains and get it right away, for free.

And everyone else, of course.

Besides, a very imperfect world filled with very imperfect people, governments can only create imperfect solutions. Inevitable, and nothing new here.

Btw, aren't we all incredibly fortunate to be citizens of a nation able to develop and provide miracle vaccines to everyone for free AND to pay everyone's medical bills from this giant national emergency? No one's uninsured for Covid, a decision of the same people now considering this as a way to limit deaths and costs.

but at this point, I don't even care - just pay the idiots. The cost of a hospital stay to battle the virus (if the person lives through it) is far greater.

I guess i look at this like they are REWARDED for waiting? I like the idea of $2000 to each person that has gotten the vaccination. PLUS put a time frame on it. By Oct 1 sounds good. Then give the payments out according to the dates that person received their Vaccinations.

hoping to get some kind of reward if they hold out long enough.

Other than that, I'm for it. I won't feel gypped if they get $100 and I didn't. I got months of feeling safe in public. That's all I need. (But I might feel differently if I was having trouble paying my bills.)
