(20,185 posts)until it got infected and swelled up. I'm only 64, but I get pains in my feet all the time. Until it gets bad enough, you just ignore it.

(32,080 posts)I've had it happen countless times, where I stepped on broken glass, and had small bits embed in my foot, which I couldn't find right away. You think it's just a cut, but it never heals up, and the glass just gets embedded even deeper. It only hurts enough to be annoying.

It's usually safe there, but there can always be contact with something that ends up being really dangerous. If she started having symptoms, and the local physicians said she needed longer term care, but wasn't in immediate mortal danger, I can understand her being removed to be closer to Washington.
