General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI know 5 people that caught Covid in the last month.
2 are vaccine eligible kids that were unvaccinated.
1 claims to have been vaccinated, but is a Trumper and I have doubts.
1 had a single Pfizer shot. They didn't get really sick. Maybe 24 hours of reduced energy.
1 had both Pfizer shots
The last one with both shots is 60+. He's been laid up for 4-5 days, not able to move much or eat. He has a headache. His oxygen is staying above 90. I think he's turning the corner for the better. The vaccine probably saved him but it's not over.
The point is that the Covid situation is clearly getting worse. A vaccine helps but is not a savior. People should use multiple layers of protection.
1. Vaccine
2. Masks
3. Hand washing
4. Sanitization where possible
If people prefer to have a mass die-off to prove some idiotic point, you can't stop them. Control what you can control for yourself. And don't waste energy on other peoples decisions if you can avoid it. Yes, it's life or death, but people make their choices.

(51,582 posts)I think that makes my odds of not catching it somewhat better than if I had a family.

I hope someone puts out some percentages of vaxed getting CV19.
I'm fine having to get a booster(s), new formulations periodically, or whatever.

(11,949 posts)In my area 97% of the hospitalized are unvaccinated. And we are over 50% vaccinated. Which means not being vaccinated is twice as dangerous to them this summer that last.
I dont think we will ever know the number of vaccinated people who get it because most cases are asymptotic.
I have a good friend in a household of 5. He is the only one vaccinated. His wife and 3 kids all very recently got it. His wife is still real sick after a week.
The one vaccinated person? No symptoms.

(790 posts)You are dead right. It's getting worse. Not too long ago the CDC said that it was happy times for the fully vaccinated and that they need not wear face masks indoors. Now it's about face. Why not divulge the whole ball of wax -- both the good and the bad -- so that folks can deal accordingly? BTW, I continued wearing my masks simply because I felt the virus was far from being wiped out. I thought the statement about the fully vaccinated going mask-free was premature.

(16,342 posts)Avoiding crowds indoors and out and masking are the primary lines of defense. Vaccines are there as a safety net in case there is a failure with one or both of the above.
