I have volunteered to help NYS with the Emergency Rent Assistance Program

Good Afternoon MTA C&D Colleagues:

The Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA) is seeking volunteers to assist with distributing rent relief to New Yorkers under the ongoing Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP). If you or a member of your team wishes to participate please read the following for directions.

MTA Volunteer Support Needed - OTDA Emergency Rent Assistance Program

We have received an urgent request from the State for staffing support to assist the Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA) with distributing rent relief to New Yorkers under the ongoing Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP). Due to the high volume of applications, processing has been slower than expected/needed and we are being asked for MTA volunteers to jumpstart the processing of applications.

I know some of your admin staff volunteered earlier this year with the DOH vaccination effort, we are happy to work with them again or anyone other staff who have availability.

Volunteers will review tenant applications and documentation to determine if they meeting program eligibility factors, including documentation to confirm identity, income limits, and other factors. This assignment is expected to run through August 31 and would be either full-time or half-time.

Shaun Wong will help coordinate between the MTA’s volunteer staff and the OTDA/State. Please fill out the attached document of your staff who are able to assist with this effort over the next month and indicate whether they will be volunteering full time or half-time. Please let Shaun (shwong@mtahq.org) know if you have any questions in the interim. If you can please let us know of available staff by end of this week it would be appreciated.

But it just isn't getting out there. It's supposed to help folks make up back rent or at least find a new place.
