Two travellers from U.S. fined $20,000 each for fake vaccination documents

Two travellers who arrived in Toronto from the United States have been fined for providing fake COVID-19 proof of vaccination documents and lying about pre-departure tests.

The Public Health Agency of Canada says the travellers also didn’t comply with requirements to stay at a government-authorized hotel or to get tested upon arrival.

The agency says in a news release Friday that the travellers arrived last week and have been handed four fines totalling $19,720 each.

One that officials could not tell the documents were fake immediately before they were allowed in and two that they are letting unvaccinated people in at all without proof of a valid medical excuse. It seems like they got off easy as well since there could have been a six month jail term and 750,000 fines.

They aren't just letting the unvaxxed in willy-nilly:

Those who are not fully vaccinated are still required to stay for three days at a government-approved hotel, quarantine for 14 days and undergo tests pre-departure, post-arrival and eight days later.

These chuckle heads tried to circumvent the rules for unvaxxed visitors (probably because it was too inconvenient for their little snowflake asses :eyes and use fake documentation to pose as having been vaccinated.

I'm glad that they were caught and the fine is high enough to sting, but I sure hope they weren't positive for covid (especially delta) when they crossed the border.

In Argentina, a man (Santiago Solans Portillo, 29) who spent time in Florida was caught not only coming back with the Delta variant - but with a fake PCR test.

Around 200 were exposed on the plane - plus however many they exposed Covid to.

This was in May, as Argentina was in the throes of a massive wave of the Manaus variant - which is a lot like the Delta.

to figure out how I get cleared for travel. I'm supposed to fly back to the US on the 9th. I tested positive for COVID (though fully vaxxed) and will complete my mandatory 10-day isolation on Monday. I have been advised not to attempt re-testing for travel because of false positives. Instead, the CDC accepts a letter from a healthcare provider or public health official, but...my GP in England cannot provide one and the NHS doesn't seem to give them out either
The US Embassy told me to take a lateral flow.
I'm happy to stay here forever, but I suspect my boss will not appreciate this at all. Plus I do need to go back to the US for a few reasons.

Still, I won't forge documents. I guess I'll get back eventually.

Canada does not open to fully vaccinated Americans until Aug 9. The people in the article crossed from the US but were either Canadian citizens or non Canadians who live in Canada.

Canada's vaccine strategy was different than ours. I believe they concentrated on first dose as many as possible then worry about the 2nd. They should hit Trudeau's goal of 75% fully vaxxed Canadians by the time the borders open to American travelers.

In an email to Newsweek, the Public Health Agency of Canada said the travelers were Canadian citizens. It said the incidents the government described Friday "are the only instances since July 5th of fraudulent documents detected at the border."
