Gov. Abbott banned COVID-19 vaccine and mask mandates in Texas, despite cases continuing to rise in the state

Texas Gov. Abbott signed an executive order on Friday, banning COVID-19 vaccine and mask mandates in Texas, despite cases continuing to rise in the state.

The order bans government entities from requiring masks or vaccine documentation for employees and also disallows private businesses from mandating masks or vaccine passports for customers. Fines of $1,000 will be doled out to those who violate the order, and private entities receiving state funding are at risk of losing the funding if they go against the order.

Cases have risen in Texas as the Delta variant spreads, and on Friday there were 6,347 new COVID-19 cases, according to the Department of Health.

First, Gov Abbott is a POS.

Second, his executive order will get more people sick and some will die. Enjoy Hell Governor.

One quibble, I did read his exec order a couple of times and it does not prevent private businesses from mandating masks for customers....unless, that business receives "funding" from the State. It would be a pretty aggressive interpretation to include businesses that sell products to the State as being "funded in part" by the State. IANAL but I do manage a local business and my understanding of the legalese of the Exec order is it lets private businesses require masks on the premises but not demand proof of vaccination except in narrow health care related cases. The Corp I work for has re instituted a "no mask no entry policy" and I feel fine enforcing it.

If anyone has a smarter read of this garbage please set me straight.

Finally Greg Abbott is a POS and our Lt Gov and AG are even worse. God help us.
