(16,159 posts)He said it was just a silly mistake! Only a little Glock in his carry-on luggage. No biggie.
I'm a young "conservative" Congressman officer. Can't you let it go just this once?
Idiot.

(7,806 posts)I am so sick of the privileged attitude these GQP congress members have.
We make laws or don't because they do not have to follow anything that DOESN'T benefit them personally.
Here is a simple example that irritates me to no end. Gym Jordan prancing around congress and TV interviews like he is still coaching wrestling. Blue shirt, yellow tie, no suit coat. Show some damn respect for the institution. The fact that he doesn't speaks volumes about the way he behaves.
He FAILED his team member in his previous life, and he fails his constituents and fellow Congress members in this life.

(575 posts)That came to my mind exactly. I live close enough that this should have made the local news. If it was a stunt it sure is a stupid one and costly too. I wonder if he uses campaign cash to pay that fine. Inquiring minds want to know ,ya know.

(11,949 posts)Forgot I took it out of the safe, grabbed some magazines and threw them into my carry on.
Its either a play for attention(my vote) or he thought his status would protect him.
I trust he will get the exact penalty I would.
If you become so cavalier about carrying around a gun you should not be able to own one.

(18,495 posts)...at 20,000 feet geese or seagulls might get sucked into the jet engines and Cawthorn wanted to be at the ready to bang bang and blast them dead from his window seat so as to avoid a plane crash.

If you and I did that, wed be detained. Wed be questioned. The gun would be secured. A report would be written. We certainly wouldnt make our flight, Wheeler said in a phone interview Friday.

The only gun-related item that can be in carryon luggage is a permit (valid).

(6,943 posts)But I do think the word "entitlement" applies. As has been stated, there is a legal way to fly with a firearm: unloaded and in checked luggage.
Why do you speak in the present tense ("It's not a uniquely Republican problem..." ) about a story that's 27 years old?

If no Democrat had ever done it, we could say that it is a uniquely Republican problem. That is not the case. File that one under "general truth."
It's not like Republicans do it all the time either. I can think of better issues with which to stoke a hate-fest.

But gun toting fascist insurrectionists like Cawthorn get treated like royalty. Like they are above the law.

(9,053 posts)The law calls for a fine and/or imprisonment. He should get both.
You or I would have been arrested on the spot.
You can transport a gun as long as you have a valid permit for all the states you are visiting, and lock the gun in a hard sided case that is checked and stored in the plane's luggage bay.
Same goes for ammunition.
Attempting to carrying both onto a plane is a very serious offense.

(14,344 posts)except for Asheville. Kinda similar to where I live in VA, as a matter of fact. The woman my son should have married lives in Asheville and is a deep blue Democrat who detests Cawthorn but she's pretty realistic about the situation and thinks that probably only a Repug can beat him. This guy could have a chance though.
