Ever since I posted my joyful 'Rain' by the Cult video 3 weeks ago, after a LONG dry spell, it's been raining off and on down here (like normal monsoons for the first time in 6 or 7 summers), and temps have been reasonable every day (topping out around 100F), and it's sure been nice.
Pretty sure my video had something to do with it

Ok. Re-read your post. You like it.
I only posted because a few days ago there was a post on DU that I read as the predicted rain in the southwest was not good. Might have been my bad for reading it incorrectly. I would think you guys welcome any rain.
Unless we have hurricane conditions I love rain. And I dont hate hurricane rain. Just the winds!

(11,949 posts)I cant imagine anyone in the desert complaining about a normal rainfall after years without them.
That part of the Southwest was much greener until cattle farming became a thing. They get real big rains during the monsoon. Its not the monsoons fault people moved into areas that get flooding during those times.
Its like the fires followed by deluges in California which cause huge floods. Thats been happening for million of years. Its a mountainous environment in a desert with a monsoon season. Those landslides happened way before human arrived. Human building houses there does not change the environment. Otherwise those mountains would be 20,000 feet. Well, maybe not that tall, but Im too lazy to look it up
Are the drought and floods getting worse because of climate change? Of course. But the entire landscape of the west was shaped by drought and flood.
Most post on DU Ive read from people who live there welcome the rain.

(33,643 posts)It's finally a summer like the ones I remember when I moved here in 2008, with a few weeks of monsoon weather around this time. Been 4 or 5 years since we had a summer spell like this, def. enjoying it.
